Met this guy in Abu Dhabi who was on the 'speaking circuit'.
You know the type, an expert on experts, training the trainer, workshops that type. He was booked for a month at USD20k tax free to show boring PPTs and educate on the finer points of teaching. Was a published author too Scott, funny guy, now that's a nice gig, top $$$, free flights, accommodation, etc.

Kinda keen on my current gig. It has it's ups and downs like any other job but all in all I get to teach bright students in an exciting country. Lots of opportunity for consulting and private gigs here and it can be lucrative if you have the connections. My top tip for working abroad would be knowing when to quit if you are miserable and bitter all the time. Misery is a vortex that sucks others in, so do the right thing and head home. The amount of miserable TEFLErs I have met is quite depressing- I live with one.

Not restricted to TEFLERs but education in general. When you've lost the passion and enthusiasm for it, dealing with a variety of kants, banging your head against the wall of expert ignoramuses who think they know it all, it's time to hang up the markers and call it day, eff the $$$.

The amount of miserable TEFLErs I have met is quite depressing- I live with one. ...we obviously travel in different circles: in my many years of roaming the globe, I've seen a number of the most miserable...they're invariably shunted off to socialize with folks who feel the same way...I certainly don't hang out with them when there are so many other alternatives more to my liking...living with one doesn't mean listening to one or even necessarily spending any time at all with one...and then complaining endlessly of your suffering on forums...take your own advice: move on...

Indeed, one reason I rarely socialize with colleagues, invariably the topics of conversation gravitate to shop talk, no thanks.
The obligatory Christmas parties are a hoot. Free flow of alcohol makes it all the more fun to watch.

My circle of friends here is small but active- weekends are for hiking and exploring. To be honest I take every opportunity to leave the pollution and dust of Mandalay that I get. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the climate is much more agreeable. Pyin Oo Lwin in less than 2 hours away by bus and has many surrounding waterfalls and pagodas. Might be transferring up to Shan State next year- have my fingers crossed on that one.

'Twas not me that changed my avatar title. I think it was someone associated with banking and we all know what they are like. It was Arrow who changed your title. For Me s benefit it wasn t a typo either Detective definition = A Key member of Team Arrow

It's the posters who make a forum and the positive interactions and dynamics. I've seen people come regularly elsewhere to get that insult in.
Sniping, insults, personal attacks, family references is the cancer of most forums and those who participate in or allow/enable. Difference of opinion is healthy but in the context of a good debate not schoolyard bullying or namecalling.
Back on topic. I worked with a man who had a split position of three days one week, four days next at a five day per week pay. Suited him fine as he was able to pursue his business interests and work as well.
