Actually the opening post by buhi reminded me of possibly my favourite episode of "Ripping Yarns, Season 1 Episode 2-The Testing Of Eric Olthwaite" Brilliant. Now back to the soi. Interesting discussion with arkom on aliens, how i could see them he could not. He wanted to know how i learnt the skill.Told him i was trained by the SAS and the glasses i wear have special lenses. He asked to try them and said he did not see any aliens. Told him because he was not SAS trained and never could be as he was Thai. Arkom was very disappointed by that so i consoled him. Took him to a spirit house and asked if he could see the spirits. To be continued. By the way all of that is true.

And indeed there will be time For the yellow smoke that slides along the street, Rubbing its back upon the window-panes; There will be time, there will be time To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet; There will be time to murder and create, And time for all the works and days of hands That lift and drop a question on your plate; Time for you and time for me, And time yet for a hundred indecisions, And for a hundred visions and revisions, Before the taking of a toast and tea.
In the room the women come and go Talking of Michelangelo.
T S Eliot from J Alfred Prufrock

The soi as usual boring. Arkam came by trying to engage, but i was not in the mood for ghosts. Put the headphones on and blocked out the world. That is nothing new; blocking out. Well most is rubbish, jokes, TGAU, beer, sex and rainfall. I thought it would rain this afternoon , but it did not.

I see a lot of funny shit on my soi every day as I am out there walking on it 3-4 hours a day now that I have reached the 9km a day mark. The other day an old guy on a equally old bicycle was riding along the edge of the road next to the klong, which is a steep drop, quite dangerous in fact. He let go this huge sneeze and momentarily lost control of his rig and very nearly ended up in the water. Funny as Hell, but one of those things where you had to be there, to see it. He was still laughing about it when he was down the end of the soi, as was I.

^^^ It is facing reality. I am old, older every day. My mind is still relatively young. My body is not. There is no future; this is it. I enjoy the banality.

"Sparrow"
You used to say don't give me things Look at me with your cold eyes, you know what I'm saying
You used to say I got a heart like a sparrow And a smile just like clay
And like a calm word would soothe you And a smile from my heart would suffice
You used to say I'll be fine on my own Give me one bottle of wine and two for the road
You used to say I've got a heart like a sparrow And a smile just like clay

The soi folk have learnt that. The genuine smile is to their children and when they choose to learn a little English. I can name them, their parents sometimes i forget their names. Gop, close friend, his daughters, Jesse and Kat. Knew them from birth. Before birth, as i was at Gop's wedding. Then Put , his wife, came by. We smiled, the smile friends get. But that is not the smile, that is the thai smile, the polite smile. Kids, they break through all that. Jesse winding me up last night. Very funny.

If I snile at you know it is genuine. Never learnt the fake shit here. True, but i do not smile naturally. As said, children can break through a barrier. It's like the Jack Dee look.

My smile is easy buhi....it was not always so but the worst of my life is over. All now is a pleasure...even on a challenging day.

My smile is easy buhi....it was not always so but the worst of my life is over. Read more: bigmango.boards.net/thread/10779/tales-soi?page=2#ixzz4muAmcl5ANow i wish i could be confident that the worst of my life is over. I will be when it is over. Of smiles, as a long time resident in Thailand i do the Thai smile. I bet if i did ever go back to England i would be regarded as an idiot, smiling like that all the time. I did say a genuine smile and that is natural. Similarly i do not laugh out loud as some do. It to me is false, but a genuine laugh, like a cough or sneeze is impossible to restrain.

One retort to my wife in a very heated exchange was, "Your smile is like a dog's arse,". I am still alive, but nearly was not.
Not original; is anything?
I think it was from Roald Dahl and adapted by me .
George couldn't help disliking Grandma. She was selfish grumpy old woman. She had pale brown teeth and a small pucker-up mouth like a dog's bottom.
