My friend "adopted" son's mother "chinese" thai owns the local shop. Mother is a very close friend of mine. She is a little older than me and was truly tired of opening a 5 in the morning and closing at 10 at night. Handed the business over to my friend. Disaster. I did warn her. She sacked her own son and sent him back to work. We laugh. I would help her, but Thai law. I do in my own way. How long she can carry on i do not know. Her son's wife is a better prospect and can see she is already being groomed to take over. Just my observations. Son , when in charge tried to cut corners and buy direct from Big C. Guess the result? The "chinese " middle man refused to deal. Total collapse of the main stock. Son sacked, main supplier back. Oh, but i know nothing.

On a side note - I never drink at home - the idea just doesn't occur to me.
I did notice tonight in Tops that Federbrau is 60 baht a bottle by the case, that seems decent

Federbrau on draft was a decent drop of stuff, they have tried to reinvent themselves and go upmarket, the ploblem is its only about 4.5 %, the skint brexit pensioners wont touch it, it dont hit the spot. The locals prefer Leo and Chang, dont even sell FB up my way.

Beers still seem to come and go. Remember Singha Gold (fairly decent in those days of no choice). Late 90-tish a black beer, gave me headache. Kloster not too bad. And of course the real Singha in the old days. Oh boy, for the adventurers or those with a death wish

Depends where you buy from and how many cases you buy. You forgot to mention the Chinese Middlemen who deliver all over Bkk. They are buying it in bulk, hundreds of cases at a time, and spend all week delivering to your local mom n pop shop who cant afford to buy in bulk. 43 from source, sounds about right, a mom n pop shop buying from a middleman at 48 baht and selling at 55 baht sounds about right. Mick, have you seen the mark up on cigarettes, buy a carton of SMS for 460 baht, sell for 51 baht per packet, or 510, the profit lies in selling 4 cigarettes for 20 baht, turn 46 baht into 100 baht in a day. Another money maker is those shots of lao kao at 10 baht per shot, or sold in an M150 bottle for 30 baht, popular with the local motocy drivers and labourers. Some of these local mom n pop shops are a goldmine. Around 2005-6 when I was in CR I did a visa run into Myanmar, mate from Devon asked me to pick up a carton of Blue River cigarettes for his missus, 200 cigs. I believe they were from Vietnam. Asked a tobacco tout in the market and he said 60 baht, and I thought he meant a packet, no that was for 10 packets ! 6 baht a pack divided by 20, no wonder she was smoking them, at that price.

Isn't it about 550 for a box of 12 bottles? I know at one time you got good savings, about 3 free out of a box. Nowadays it's a small saving.

I just find it hard to believe they're only making 7 baht a bottle English mate of mine lived in a village just outside of CR, him and his missus were both big drinkers. Little shop there used to sell three bottles of Leo for what I thought was a pittance, could not have been making much per bottle. But mate said you should see how much they sell every day there, it must add up. They really do work on small profit-big turnover. And another thing Mick, you should see the stack of assorted glass and plastic bottles in the back yard were i am. My wife and i a long with her mother and the rest of the family rent out rooms to Thais. 20 rooms, basic, at 2500 baht a month. We also sell freshly cooked food and drink as well as basic goods, 4 washing machines to clean clothes, plus under the table lottery and nightly card games if you want to try your luck. Everything has a small mark up on it, no matter how small. It soon mounts up ! They go out to work in and around the soi and a fare portion of their wage gets spent back here. Who needs farangs ! We rent to maids, shopping mall workers, taxi drivers, cooks and even the girls who work in the massage parlour at the end of our road. Anyway MIL calls a lady every week to come and collect the empties, of which she weighs and we make about 350 - 500 baht for nothing from the sale.
