It would not take very long for NK to wipe out 10million people living in Seoul, using conventional weapons, that's the big risk and the cost of any type of conflict. Fine, so four days later all NK has left is its nuclear arsenal and with nothing left to lose, it would use it. Incorrect. The majority of NK weaponry is incapable of reaching Seoul. The majority is short-range, under 10 miles. The casualty assessment ( from memory ) is 130,000 civilian deaths. The military assessment is that NK's conventional weapons would be degraded to ineffective in four days. Trump has to get permission from the peacenic SK president to launch an attack UNLESS NK hits US soil first ( Guam ). We hope so, but.....:. southfront.org/north-korea-vs-south-korea-comparison-of-military-capabilities-what-would-new-war-in-korea-look-like/

Not the first time a foreign president would have to resign or be overthrown or mired in scandle and a puppet put in. A little talk to the money makers of South Korea would have them begging the US to use nukes. Problem the US has is all its troops in South Korea,,,,,they will not let them be attacked wiithout very strong reaction.

The link is irrelevant - this is not a war between the two Korea's.

The link is irrelevant - this is not a war between the two Korea's. It would make life a lot simpler if it were and who knows, the answer might just be to make it so again, I suspect Trump would find that an easy and desirable out. But the issue was whether NK could devastate Seoul with conventional weapons, in that respect the link is relevant albeit it does not consider the implications of US weaponry but I don't think that changes the answer much at all.

The link is incorrect - the laughable assumption would be that the NK weapons would all discharge ( even though they have a proven failure rate of 25% ) and actually hit the target - AND that there would be no return fire from SK. The only worry the USA has would be to track and locate some of the longer range weapons that are concealed within mountain areas before they do serious damage. Hence the casualty figure of around 150,000. Me? battlefield nuke their nuclear installation plus another couple of known hotspots - then let it rain. Every US allied military in the area will join in on the party - and the Chinese will take a collective whitey. Excellent - exactly what they are needing.

Trump ordered the non-nuclear 'mother of all bombs' be dropped on some mountain in Afghanistan. Dropping some of these on a few, select spots in NK might do the trick. Less 'fallout'. Mind you, if these biggies don't have the effect envisioned, we'd have a real problem.

I don't have strong or knowledgeable views on all of this, I was simply looking at the subject on the basis of what seems logical. But shortly after I read your post above I was reading what Boris Johnson had to say on the subject and I quote: "Mr Johnson said: “It’s certainly our view that none of the military options is good...the distance between North Korea and Seoul is very, very small and they could basically vaporise large parts of the South Korean population even with conventional weapons, so that’s not really very easy to threaten or to deliver.” Now that's Boris of course who could indeed have confused North Korea with Notting Hill and is a bit of a buffoon, but....! www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/09/03/boris-johnson-warns-donald-trump-taking-military-actions-against/

So SK did a simulated test to target NK's nuclear sites and this was followed by news that NK is preparing an ICBM for launch. This kinda looks like one saying, if you do that I'll do this, none of which is going to end well......and markets fell of course on news of it all. Perhaps it's just time to get on with it and be done, it doesn't sound like the short fat kid wants much else other than to fight so let's oblige, hell, the population of the planet was too high anyway. And since this is still the monsoon season and the winds are from the SW, the weather is perfect!
One thought that occurs is whether Putin would use such a fight as cover to push further into Europe or Scandinavia, two fronts and all that, or is that too far fetched?

One thought that occurs is whether Putin would use such a fight as cover to push further into Europe or Scandinavia, two fronts and all that, or is that too far fetched? Bombs Away by Harry Turtledove "Bombs Away is the first volume of a projected alternate history series, The Hot War, in which atomic weapons are used during the Korean War, leading to the outbreak of World War III. It was released on July 14, 2015.[1] The novel begins on November 23, 1950, after Chinese forces have intervened in the Korean War. In OTL, Chinese troops were able to encircle UN forces at the Battle of Chosin, but the UN forces were able to break out and evacuate North Korea in good order. In Bombs Away, the Chinese appear to have been much more aggressive early on, with the result that about three UN divisions are encircled and systematically destroyed over the closing weeks of November and into December, despite U.S. efforts to provide air support. As is typical for Turtledove's multivolume works, the narration of Bombs Away is told through several POV characters. Cade Curtis, a U.S. soldier who is caught behind enemy lines at Chosin, and begins making his way south. President Harry Truman, the novel's only historical POV, authorizes MacArthur to use atomic bombs against China proper if it is the only way to improve the situation. While the situation deteriorates, various civilian and military POVs have their destinies shifted. Soviet tank commander Konstantin Morozov is moved to East Germany, as is Hungarian soldier Tibor Nagy. West German vet Gustav Hozzel sees the U.S. military mobilize in Fulda. Ihor Shevchenko, a Ukrainian vet, worries that he'll be taken from his collective farm. Soviet pilot Boris Gribkov is moved to Provideniya. U.S. pilot Bill Staley, stationed in South Korea, is soon tasked with carrying atom bombs. His wife, Marian raises their daughter, Linda in Everett, Washington, and tries not to worry too deeply about her husband. In Glendale, California, Aaron Finch works as an appliance delivery man. British widow Daisy Baxter runs her pub, as the global situation reminds of the days leading up to World War II." turtledove.wikia.com/wiki/Bombs_Away

It has a Wargames movie feel to it. The trick is to let NK make the 1st mistake, and shoot the missile down before it hits the target, or hack it and send it towards Beijing.

Its like deja vu all over again, afghanistan, libya, iraq and syria. Who will be left to pick up the pieces? Uncle sam always has an in, but never an out. 26 million people, where will they go, what country will take them, who will pick up the bill? Eff me a country that is so skint they are asking for gov't funds to pick up the tab for a bit of rain in teaxs.
