I think the punishments for insulting Buddhism here are absurd- it's Saudi with different colored robes

Myanmar people are the least nationalistic people I've run into in my experience. Except when it comes to their consistently second-best SE Asian football team (they can't beat Thailand), the people here express the least amount of national pride I've run into. Indonesians think Indonesia is the best country in the world. Thai think Thailand is the best country in the word. Myanmar are slightly embarrassed of being Myanmar.

^^^ they are hankering after a return to the motherland, I blame the Brits for screwing it up.
A bit like Pakistan and Bangladesh, your average peasant was better off under Brit rule.
