Thailand's former PM 'flees to Singapore' during trial that could see her jailed for 10 years Thailand’s former prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, has fled to Singapore after failing to appear in court to hear the verdict of a trial that could see her jailed for 10 years, her supporters have claimed. Ms Yingluck, who became Thailand's first female prime minister in 2011, is accused of criminal negligence after overseeing a scheme that subsidised rice farmers, with growers paid twice the market rate for their crop. It led to huge stockpiles of rice and damaged the country’s rice exports, leading to allegations of corruption and wasted money. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/thailand-prime-minister-yingluck-shinawatra-singapore-flee-negligence-trial-verdict-jailed-10-years-a7912061.ht

That's the trouble these parasitical Shins think they are above the law and if course they love their political policy of what's mine is mine, and what's the states is also mine and what is yours is soon going to be mine.
I wonder what was and has been done by the Shin clan to assist their Red Shirt pawns who are still in prison? Sweet F A, but the the mob leaders all filled their pockets and skipped the country.
I'm alright mate the motto of the Shin clan

The son, young Oaf, is rumoured to be somewhat 'delicate' so also not really what Thai like (in politics that is). The youngest daughter I don't know. Ms. Y's son is too young and might be more into GoT rather than real politics. So, who's left?

Of course there is always the chance that she has been offed by the family head, i e her brother, as a sacrifice to his self perceived demigod status. Could just be a fine tuning exercise to make her sacrificial post as Prime Minister even more effective.
After all she is female, thus totally expendable in the pursuit of absolute power.
The Chinese traditions are still there, if in doubt take her out and blame the current administration.
Certainly a great strategic move to engender more sympathy for him and his return to Thailand and the plundering of its coffers, its resources, businesses and the people all in the guise of the role of the New Messiah.

You're rather overlooking his elder sister, Yaowapa, who's been a vote-grabbing politician in Chiang Mai and is married to a former Prime Minister, Somchai Wongsawat, though she's been keeping a lower profile recently. She's the mostly likely candidate for the next red shirt PM, unless Maew would prefer to install another puppet.

Maybe a bit too clear what it's about. Need some subtlety even for Thai

Need some subtlety even for Thai Have you seen what passes for entertainment on Thai TV? Subtlety definitely not required. And let's be honest, the people who vote for the Thaksin clan are generally not well educated and not well informed. As long as they believe (usually erroneously) that their personal interests are being served they'll vote for anyone, no matter how self-serving and vile the candidate.

I'm afraid you're right and after 23 years here I'm still thinking too much like a 'farang' Y's supporters were said to look forward to new rice 'subsidies' like the 100% above market price earlier this decade. Thailand as very rich country can obviously afford such grandese as hand-outs to the 'right' political supporters.
