Which reminds me, how's our red bull roady doing? I believe work is underway to compile a list of countries he isn't in, I understand they are working on the letter B! But seriously, if he does evade capture until the statute of limitation expires and he's allowed to freely return to this country, will he be able to wear all of this as some kind of badge of honour or will his blatant avoidance prove to be just a little too toxic for most, I'm betting on the latter.

The corrupted versus the corrupted. What a shit fest. No one in their right mind would return home to face that fight. Seriously now it's a case of same lemons from a different tree trying to lynch a family that's no different from the present day heirachy and the only reason people are too scared to speak up is because of the fear of being slammed with a lm lawsuit that guarantees 20 years in the clink. Freedom of speech is gone which then leaves not much more than tyranny. What a sorry state of affairs it really is.

I happened to talk to two independent human rights lawyers in the last month. One had been tasked with interviewing the remaining Red Shirt leaders. I'm not posting on the open forum what the Red Shirts said except -
1. They have given up on the clan.
2. They have given up on Bangkok.
They know they made a serious mistake in 2010, and almost repeated it in 2013/14. You won't see any major Bangkok demonstrations maybe ever, and certainly in this decade.
This particular lawyer observed that they will wait until after the next election to see the lie of the land. They expect to form the government again. He said that he couldn't get them to understand the implications of the 25% military appointee quota which renders the democratically elected government to puppet status.
He observed two things -
1. They may be enraged when anything they try is blocked by the appointees.
But then, and I agree with this -
2. The appointee system could be the salvation of the Red Shirts. The appointees will forbid scandalous ideas such as the rice scheme. This new system will engender better management of government and the economy. In effect, the new Red Shirt movement will be in permanent government without the rancour caused by the clan.

I've said for years that Taksin would never be back. He has a minimum of four deadly enemies awaiting him. That includes members of the business community who would love a Hoffa moment with him.
He has an enemy in his home village of San Kampaeng who will shred him if given a chance. That's coming direct from the village. And while Lanna is a Red Shirt stronghold, don't be kidded that there are serious forces afoot who take an opposite view in the area.
Anyone that knows Chiang Mai can see evidence on a daily basis of the stranglehold Yellow Shirt forces have on the city.

However - it's got nothing to do with us. This is Thai business.
And I don't care if you have a deep emotional attachment to the country, family, etc - you know it's got nothing to do with us foreigners. Mercedes Girl put it well -
"We'll have a coup, have to go home early a few nights, then we'll sort it out."
Simple - or as was said in December last year to foreigners who thought the new circumstances would result in Chiang Mai getting to open later:
"You seriously think the fate of Zoe@yellows and Spicy is figuring high in the things to do list?"
Ya'll, we all, knew about the political turmoil before we stepped foot in the country. And as I once observed in the other place:
"Mildred, pack your bags, we're going to move to Thailand and spend all day arguing online about Thai politics."
"Okay, George, here's your medication."

Chiang Mai 50ish years ago would have been red. Nowadays it's a different beast. The farms have been sold off to make way for supermarkets and shopping malls.
The population of Thailand is roughly 65 million? Give or take.
How many of that population can truly afford the yellow lifestyle? The majority of Thailand are red but who's gonna argue with a govt that only less than 10 years ago was shooting dead anyone that wore a red colour tshirt on the streets at night? I wouldn't.

No real shock that Yingluck has done the same as her criminal fugitive brother Thaksin.

I think we'll probably come to find that a certain amount of pre-planning has gone into all of this and that she has already acquired a passport from Montenegro or similar. With the benefit of hindsight, it was inevitable she would do this given that lesser ministers received long jail terms. Plus she was never going to become a martyr and do the time, just like her brother wasn't, only those without funds or alternatives do the time.
