Increasingly common in the UK when the drink driving laws were strengthened, particularly in rural areas - take your jug to the pub, have a pint and take a jug full home....not quite the same as sitting around in the pub having a natter with friends but when needs must....! |

I remember as a child being sent to the pub off licence to get a jug of beer.
The pub off licence was literally an extra door on the side of the pub which had a counter where you could be served take out draft beer without entering the pub.

A very sensible approach, there always used to be several pubs within walking distance of almost anywhere, now people drive to an edge of town Tesco and Aldi to buy beer and wine, how uncivilised is that!

Jug Bars were common in the days when women were not permitted to enter the establishment. Such perfect civility...my local in Scotland still has one perfectly preserved although we have reluctantly allowed the odd lassie in nowadays. |
