" The Rite of Spring is a ballet and orchestral concert work by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky." I didn't. Igor Stravinsky was American at the time of his death, so it's by an American composer, or a Russian-born composer. Amazing to think that it provoked rioting at the first performance.

Igor Stravinsky was American at the time of his death, so it's by an American composer, or a Russian-born composer. Amazing to think that it provoked rioting at the first performance. Stravinsky was a bit of many things. Wiki says: Stravinsky was born on 17 June 1882 in the town of Oranienbaum on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, 25 miles west of Saint Petersburg. His mother, Anna Kirillovna Stravinskaya (née Kholodovskaya; 1854–1939), a native of Kyiv, was one of four daughters of a high-ranking official in the Kyiv Ministry of Estates. (That's the capital of Ukraine) The Stravinsky family was of Polish and Russian heritage,[4] descended "from a long line of Polish grandees, senators and landowners". The original family surname was Sulima-Strawiński; the name "Stravinsky" originated from the word "Strava", one of the variants of the Streva River in Lithuania. Igor also lived in Switserland for five years, 19 years in France and 32 years in the USA. Anyway Rite of Spring was written and premiered in France. So it's French and they can have it. I'm sure in this even tigs would agree with me.

Stravinsky was born ... in the town of Oranienbaum Isn't that the town that produces the famous Dutch Pilsner? Maybe Stravinsky was Dutch? You're probably mixing things a bit. From 1683 on, the Countess Henriette Catherine of Nassau had the Oranienbaum Palace erected according to plans by the Dutch architect Cornelis Ryckwaert. That's in in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. As for that beer, the less said about it the better. Give me Grolsch any day. BTW did you know ... "The Oranjeboom brewery mainly produced Oranjeboom pils and other lagers, and also Trio Stout. Oranjeboom Breweries were also the manufacturers of the popular Dutch Gold beer, which is one of the best-selling lager beers in retail around the Republic of Ireland." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oranjeboom_Brewery"Dutch Gold is a low-cost, imported, pilsner lager beer sold only in Ireland.[1] It was launched there in 1995." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Gold

Did you know ... "The Hunt for the UK's Moon Trees There could be as many as 15 Moon Trees in the UK - trees grown from seeds flown around the Moon by NASA astronaut Stuart Roosa on the Apollo 14 mission in 1971. But where are they now? The Royal Astronomical Society and the UK Space Agency would love to know, in their joint quest to find these living pieces of space history." www.moondaily.com/reports/The_Hunt_for_the_UKs_Moon_Trees_999.html

Did you know ...
... Brexit is finally done!
Although the British parliament had ratified the treaty end of last year, the Members of the European Parliament didn't accept being pushed. As usual they took their time. Of course the treaty also had to be translated in a Babel like number of languages which also takes time.
But the EP voted early morning Wednesday and the treaty is ratified (620 for, 5 against, 32 abstentions).
So now truly "Brexit is done!"

Did you know ...
... farrago means "a confused mixture". Of course just saying so doesn't make it so. It's like obfuscation and trying to avoid given a clear description of what is meant and why. After all, "as all know ..."

Did you know ... ... farrago means "a confused mixture". I thought it was a film by the Cohen brothers starring the father from Shameless (US).

"a fine strong tissue"....scientists were working on a successor to IZAL when they invented kevlar instead. Did I ever mention my hemorrhoid operation? There is nothing more humbling than laying on a hinged operating table with your arse in the air and realizing there are about twenty student nurses lined up against the wall at the back of the room and there's not a damned thing in the world you can do about it. Whenever I see pictures or movies that involve operations in the UK there's only ever three or perhaps four people in the room. In Thailand, let me tell you, somebody must stand out in the street and hand out notices to passers by...."3pm, Operation on CM's arse, free, refreshments served afterwards, free parking, everyone welcome". If you don't get at least twenty people in the operating theatre, I'd be very suspicious about the hospital. And there's another very important aspect of hemorrhoid's operations that nobody every talks about and that's the after effect, what happens once your arse has been redesigned. Ordinarily, the orfice in question is fairly symmetrical, it's equal on both sides which means when something is ejected from it, it comes out pretty much at a 90 degree angle and goes straight down. BUT, after someone has hacked a chunk out of one side or the other, all that changes and ejection then takes place at around a 60 degree angle or in my case, closer to 45 degrees. In order to compensate for that problem it's necessary to do the business whilst leaning 45 degrees in the opposite direction which I can tell you is quite an art form. They never tell you these things before hand but now you know.

^^| Thanks CM, my life wouldn't be the same without that first bum hand experience you shared with us. As for the gathering it reminds me, whenever I had a meeting at KTB (aka that bank) I had to wait till the room was filled. Those in the backroom seemed to immediately doze off but at least the meeting room was nicely filled

Don't worry, I used the piece of soap my mother had sent me years ago. Washed my mouth and felt better already. The mental picture will be more lasting I'm afraid.
