Former Thai leader seeking asylum in UK, says party source (CNN)Thailand's former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is in London and seeking political asylum in the United Kingdom, a source in her Pheu Thai Party told CNN on Thursday. Thailand's Supreme Court convicted Yingluck on Wednesday of dereliction of duty over a controversial rice subsidy program and sentenced her to five years in prison. The scheme cost the country billions of dollars. Having already fled the country, Yingluck was not present for the verdict and sentencing. Yingluck -- ousted by a military coup in 2014 -- had been barred from leaving Thailand without court approval since 2015, when her trial started. Her bail of 30 million baht ($900,000), posted when the trial began more than two years ago, has been confiscated. edition.cnn.com/2017/09/28/asia/yingluck-shinawatra-asylum/index.html

Maybe they will give her a free house and state handouts ? Don't be silly. She doesn't worship Allah, she worships only Mammon. On a more serious note, I think it's rather sneaky of the junta to change the law so that she can't appeal her sentence in absentia. And of course, if she were to return to Thailand she would go straight to jail. Still, if there's ever another election and the red shirts get in the law will, doubtless, quickly be revoked.

She will not get a visa for the UK one suspects being a criminal fugitive, the UK visa office kinda frowns on stuff such as being on the run

I thought i had read somewhere they had already cancelled her diplomatic passport, then again she may have an EU passport from the likes of Malta, Cyprus etc ie the ones you can buy and would be no checks to get into Mud Island If the lot here are telling the truth that they have got interpol involved, i have my doubts, and there is a red notice, she can expect a knock on the door from the UK Rozzers, its not for the UK to assign guilt or innocence, she is wanted and the UK is obligated to execute the warrant and detain her

Her brother dropped his asylum request when it became clear he couldn't leave the country too often, couldn't give too many 'nice' speeches, etc., etc. If I remember correctly not long after while already having left the UK he was declared unwelcome.
I assume that Ms. Y will encounter similar restrictions if she applies for asylum.
