I need a certificate of residency to buy a motorbike in my name. I have to give them proof that I live at my address.
My address is on my Thai driving licence, but that is not accepted as proof. Only in Thailand.

We used to have a similar issue with birth certificates whenever we went to any government office for anything involving our oldest's birth certificate. A few years back a cleaner took it upon herself to throw away the envelope that had her birth certificate in it. God knows why, wasn't as if it was near a bin, where normal people put things in to be thrown away. I'd scanned it, but government offices wouldn't accept scans or print outs, so we had to go and get an official copy done at the ampheur. Great we'll be able to use a that instead in future, just like the original. No the offices all want that official copy and don't want a "copy of a copy". Because it says copy on the top they won't accept copies of it  We have 2 daughters, so whenever doing anything with birth certs (loads of stuff in Thailand), 1 was OK and they accepted copies of the original. 1 they wouldn't as they won't accept a copy of an official copy T.I.T |

Only in Thailand. That is proof of your address when you got the licence. It is not proof now. It would not be accepted in many western counries either though they get round it by mailing your licence renewal which you muist use to that address and then mailing your licence there. |

What about all the farang who live and work abroad who hold Thai drivers licences?
Go to your local amphor where you do your 90 day reporting and ask for one, in Bkk it costs 200 baht,or you can head to Rip Off House know as the Brit Embassay and pay throught the nose for the priveldge.
Not just Thailand, many countries have the same.
You are confusing two totally seperate issues, a drivers licence is NOT proof of address.

I'd offer, but Friday nights I always dust the umbrellas. My Thai Brother in law (tat artist) will tell him they look like crap, and will offer a cover up job. He even does house calls and supplies proper American ink. |
