We were there in 2011 and had a good time. Everyone should see it at least once.
We stayed at the Sheraton Grand Rio during carnival.

I think it was early 90-tish a colleague had to go to Rio for a project and everyone was jealous. He got a nice hotel not far from the beach. Asking a bit he got advice . when it gets dark stay inside . if you walk and someone asks for your wallet give it . make sure there's at least some money in the wallet. An empty one may get you killed Not sure things have improved, but if when theBleth survives he can tell us all about it  |

I work with a lot of Brazilians but never been there.
It is on my list, moreso Chile.

After Chile, I think I'll be in Dubai with my Dad first week in April, then into Thailand for Songkran. I reckon I'll be in Scotland in May, then Russia for the World Cup.
I'll see how I feel for the second half of the year - I reckon Mexico or India. I love Mexico October/November timeframe, what with the Day of the Dead and other festivals. Magic.
