983 foreigners busted for overstays in 3 days Eight Chinese nationals wanted for sex trafficking in Pattaya were among nearly 1,000 foreigners fined or arrested for overstaying their visas in a three-day regional immigration crackdown. Top officials from Immigration Bureau Region 3 – covering the East and Central regions of Thailand – reported results of the Nov. 13-16 alien sweep Nov. 17, saying 983 people were either captured or surrendered to face charges they overstayed their visas. Locally, immigration police arrested eight Chinese wanted on a prostitution warrant issued by Pattaya Provincial Court, another Chinese fugitive hiding the area and a Russian wanted on drug charges. Looking at the photo, it would appear that the Thai police have seized the passports of British nationals. Are they really so ignorant as not to know that these passport are issued under royal prerogative and may not be seized? This is a direct insult to Her Britannic Majesty. The policemen responsible should be arrested and imprisoned for lèse majesté. And if not, time to send in the gun boats, methinks.

I'm surprised at the seemingly lax attitude of the Brits. I would have thought them to know all about dealing with natives, repeating oneself while raising the voice ever so slightly, the "do you know who I am?", and of course the 4 or 5PM "where's my tea?"

Back on topic, I;m looking forward to the beach raids on smokers, while Somchai cooks food on his coal pot a few metres away and serves it in a polystyrene tray and a carrier bag.

Bout time the thai law started cracking down harder on the overstayers.
I'd like them to sit 6 months in Bang Kwang before deportation.
