Among many things worthy of comment - look at the first photo on the article. She is a genuinely good-looking girl, with a handsome young farang husband. They look like a good match. One of the automatic skills of women is the ability to discern quickly if a couple is well matched by appearance and age. They are. He's not holding on to his "last chance at happiness," or "trophy wife." He could wander out anytime and get another woman. You're seeing far more of this in Thailand, young men taking up long-term with Thai women. I was up in Chiang Rai last year and was amused to see some of the Pattaya Brigade up on their country sojourn, wondering why the girls weren't interested. Every decent looking girl in these bars had a young farang boyfriend who they were going home with that night. In the meantime, the old farangs had one role, buy lady drinks. The arrival of the youngsters has been a game changer. And it won't subside anytime soon. The whole subject is complex and probably deserves a book. so I may as well write it and make a few quid off it, if I can ever be bothered.  |

As for the Somchai aspect - they got away with acting like pricks for centuries - the modern world has caught up with them.
A hooker I know went home to her village about a month ago. The father of her child found out she was there, turned up from a hundred miles away and knocked fork out of her.
This was the guy that refused to put his name on the birth certificate when she fired out a baby aged 16. The same guy that hasn't sent a single penny his three-year-old daughters' way.
Why did he knock fork out of the mother after not having seen her for two years?
For her refusal to send him money to support his Somchai lifestyle.

Nothing.
There lies another difference between we farangs and the Somchai Brigade. You can guarantee at the very least there would be a police involvement in farangland.
Or very likely that the guy would be kicked into a hospital bed.
I read the thread on Facebook, a hundred responses long, with many saying go to the police when they saw the injuries. She didn't go fearful of retaliation.

My missus has made it perfectly clear that if she were still in Thailand she would still be happily single; rather than be married to a drunken local and working her butt off to support him whilst he is off shagging whatever he can.

Tbh , a census taken from 100 women and 20 in another town is hardly thorough now is it in a country of 35 ish million females. No wonder Thai universities are considered a joke.

^^^^ concur, why do we never get the back story on these isaan princesses?
Is it because no Somchai wants them?
Is it because of the baggage they bring with them?
Maybe the much maligned khun somchai is actually not as daft as he is made out, how many somchais do you hear of who have jumped out condo windows?

These girls who make it out of the villages to the industrial factories in Rayong, Ayuttaya etc etc are now being offered salaries of 15k baht +++, not mentioned, free company provided accomodation and free company provided transport back and forth to work. These are the same girls who on a Sunday are waiting in line to get into a 400 baht per head all you can eat Japanese/Korean buffet place, taking selfies and posting them on Face. They soon find out their stock has risen, they no longer need to consider the motocy wins and delivery truck drivers as potential partners, they are now meeting Thai guys on salaries of 25k ++ per month. Not mentioned, the girls and guys who made it out of the back of beyond and no longer bother going back upcountry at New Year or Song Kran to be ripped off by their lazy worthless relatives. |

Meanwhile Gramps from nakon nowhere posts furiously on internet forms asking, where and why did it all go wrong? |

Not exactly something I aspire to, especially the ones who have managed to make it to three score and ten.
Unless knocking up half a dozen girls to sell to the local drunks is some sort of achievement.
