I do think some people are going a bit over the top on this subject.
Personally I think what they did was immature, crass and offensive. However, in civilised countries there's no right not to be offended, and no law against being immature and crass. (Indeed, in America being so can lead to your becoming President - not that I'm saying America is civilised.)
It's also a fact that tourists act more irresponsibly when on holiday than they would in their home countries. If Thailand wants to encourage mass tourism, it should expect some bad behaviour. If it can't tolerate the sight of a couple of plonkers partly baring their buttocks, it should stop promoting itself as a tourist destination.
And if this was genuinely offensive to Buddhists, then I suggest those Buddhists strive to improve their understanding of nekkhamma (non-attachment) - an element of the eightfold path.
Not that it's relevant, but as temples goes, Wat Arun is #2 on my "not spiritual Thai temples" list*. It is run as a money-raising tourist attraction. I just wonder whether the couple would have bared their buttocks at somewhere that felt a bit more like a temple.
* #1 is Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai. Absolutely loathed the place.

Anything which has a link with religion can easily rouse people into a frenzy of moral indignation. Mind you it may be less people feel inclined to 'moon' St. Pauls in London because of the weather and the absolute horror of being called Islamists by some 88-tish figures  |

Now if i was a 14 choir boy and did this i would know exactly what would happen ...!!.. but as an adult, i am sure the swiss guard would want a quiet word... Lets see how brave these septics are....i dare them to go to Saudi and bare their arses...i dare ya |
