This ISNT a how much I spend every month thread, its more a question of reality.
I live in Bkk, I often hear about people telling me its cheaper to live outside bkk/upcountry.
Maybe I am thick, but is it really?
As far as I know, there in no post code discrimination in Thailand.
Water, gas and electric is the same price all over. Petrol, diesel, etc, same price all over.
Internet, True, same price all over. Health insurance, car insurance, house insurance same price all over Thailand.
Where I live in Bkk, a loom, fan only no air, 2500 baht per month. Loom air 3000 baht per month. Rent a townhouse, 6-10,000 baht per month. Rent a single storey house, 8-12,000 baht per month. Rent double storey house10-15, 000 baht per month.
As far as I know, Honda, Toyotas etc etc are the same price all over Thailand.
So it begs the question, where does this myth come from that upcountry is cheaper?
Is it because theres ferk all to do? Here in Bkk, I pay for a one hour massage, 150 baht. Watch a movie, 120 baht. Play snooker in an a/c hall, 120 baht per hour.
Local roadside eateries, dishes from 40-60 baht, local foodcourt, same dishes50-80 baht, buy the same food at The Mall Bang Kapi, about 70 baht per dish, cook yourself.
Bought today, Brookes baked beans, 12 tins at 60 baht per tin, bought today, Branston pickle, large jar, 180 baht per jar, bought 6, HP sauce, small bottle, bought today x6 109 baht per bottle.
Thoughts pls.

bought today, Branston pickle, large jar, 180 baht per jar By "large jar" do you mean 720 gram jar? In Bangkok a 310 gram jar is 199 baht. (In the UK they don't do a 310 gram jar, but for comparison a 360 gram jar is GBP 1.40 - roughly 62 baht.)

Fecking upcountry peasants.
My world famous spicy chicken stew costs me 100 Baht a large portion to produce and that's buying all ingredients from Gourmet Market.
If I buy from MaxValue in Pattanakan its 70 Baht.
Upcountry I'd have to visit BigC or Tesco. That's enough to keep me in town....I mean do they even have cocktail sticks with cubes of parmesan and aged gouda?
Like I said its for the people who have escaped from Hemel Hempstead.

Tank of water 10 to 14 baht depending how we get it. Fetch from the depot is cheapest. Gas tank lasts about 10 weeks. Diesel actually does vary, we pay more in Ranong than say NST. Annual house water bill is about 150 baht. Electric about 650 baht/month. I do live in the sticks, 40 mins from Ranong by car/pickup. Air's cleaner than a city. Only downside is no bookshop nearby, or cinema showing English language movies. Beer large Leo, 55 to 60 baht, 70 if we eat out.

As a tourist it's definitely cheaper upcountry. Bangkok as a tourist is as expensive as Australia.

You can get a Thai curry and rice in Terminal 21 for 35 Baht....where can you get anything like that in Sydney? Or a pint of Carlsberg for 99 Baht in Suk Soi 33/1? Again where in Sydney? A taxi ride from the river to Suk for 120 Baht....again how much in Sydney? A reasonable hotel for 2000 Baht Yes same question.

You guys still seem to talk a bit like tourists rather than native, well settled population.
Mind you, lots of colleagues seem to have a shoebox apartment in Bangkok (or suburbs) and go back 'home' upcountry for the weekend to really 'live'.

Ah I see, you're already promoted from 'digital pikey' to 'quality tourist' I have an AIS (Huawei) WiFi hot-spot which I plug into my notebook for Internet access via the USB port. The WiFi part I never use and I keep it password protected to avoid pikeys. When I go walk-about I only have my trusted iHitz and feel real 'free'
