You guys still seem to talk a bit like tourists rather than native, well settled population. Mind you, lots of colleagues seem to have a shoebox apartment in Bangkok (or suburbs) and go back 'home' upcountry for the weekend to really 'live'. A lot of truth in that uncle, I know locals I only see on the weekend, they rent a shoebox in the CBD, they live in it, Mon -Thurs, on a Fri come back to the sticks, and leave again on a Mon morning. They tell me its hassle free and beats the heck out of commuting each day.

Why would anyone want to live there full time, city or upcountry? 2 months a year is just fine. Off the top of my head, those who have job employed by large MNC, those who have their own businesses. Tax reasons, a, work in country a, get your salary paid into Singapore/Hong Kong, and live in Thailand tax free, b, retirees living tax free and not being taxed on their overseas investments. Ease of living, I know of no other country where a retiree can rock up with a mere pittance of 800,000 baht and get a year long extension to his visa, year after year. If lets say, Burma, Laos or Vietnam offered the same the mrs and I would be outta here like a shot.

If I was in any of the countries mentioned below I'd be concerned about the cost of popping me clogs!!! Or rather those left behind would be more concerned about the costs. Looks like uncle rubl gets the best removal fee deal when relocating to a new cosmic address. In the U K the average cost of a funeral with a traditional burial is £4,257 and the average cost of a funeral with cremation is £3,311 Australia. Funerals can cost from $4,000 for a basic cremation to around $15,000 for a more elaborate casket, burial and flowers. America. North American traditional funeral costs between $7,000 and $10,000. This price range includes the services at the funeral home, burial in a cemetery, and the installation of a headstone.. Holland.. The average cost of a cremation is $2,250 according to CANA. However, you are likely to find that cremation costs in Holland will differ between cremation providers and crematories. Here in Thailand 150,000 baht seems to be a bargainGo cheapo, local price, no messing about, 25-30,000 baht. The local wat up my way has their prices written for all to see. I am going even cheaper, donate body to Chula, free.

Got two freebies in the village in Surin, due to''er what shouts and spend the money making a donation (size unknown to me) to help fund the village ats crematoria. Not so long back if you were done in the village it was the old fashioned way bloody big bonfire. Effective though the local undertaker knows his job.

The Mall Bang Kapi, 3rd floor, beside the carpark has a blood donation place, you can also donate your body. Chula will come and pick it up, pity the poor bastid that gets my liver.
