Let's say, hypothetically, that your ticker starts misfiring in Thailand. Would you head home once stabilised, take up smoking and heavy drinking again (assuming you cut back in the first place), head to the best hospital in Thailand that your circumstances (insurance) allows, check into some country hospital, or otherwise? After chatting with the missus, I would definitely pop the pills and head back to the motherland.

Pop off to the hospital, not fussy a government one would do see what theyadvise and can do. If the grim reaper is sharpening his scythe and approaching me in my field to harvest me so be it, enjoy joy life while I can. Been a good fun run to date but all things come to an end.

The local hospital would be last on my list. Head home first followed by the best treatment I could afford otherwise. Bangkok, Singapore.....

I think the moral of the story is to keep a million baht on tap for a rainy day. Or expect to be pushed into a corner on a trolley should things turn south.

Or investigate and take out insurance. Or is that too obvious?

If you have been absent from the U K for five years or more you lose your rights to free healthcare. The account rendered for your treatment is at cost plus 50% , unless of course you can prove you are a refugee.

Knock on wood and all that but till now I never really had something serious. Makes me wonder when my time will come.
Still, the question might arise 'do you want to live forever'? In peoples memory may be. In real life, dunno. When does someones usefulness ends?

Why not try and last a bit longer just to annoy the crap out of everyone. You only die once.

Singapore, insurance, some money stashed under the pillow?

We pushed a friend who was knocking on deaths door through Bangkok customs last year without anyone batting an eyelid. Fortunately we got him home again before he died. But it did leave me wondering who else gets into Thailand. Saw them roll some drunken blonde chick through customs a while back. She couldn't stand up. Rolled her to the taxi rank and went back to work.

Here in Myanmar I would be stuffed, cross fingers and hope I survive the flight to BKK. Have good insurance, so it would be a taxi ride to BNH for an op and convalescence. Insurance is something I've never seen the point in not buying, you never know.

AS for trains and living forever ... ... Last evening standing in the entrance of a overcrowded bus which stopped on the tracks of the Nakorn Chaisri railway crossing I could clearly see the front lights of the train approaching as the doors weren't closed. Too bright as it approached but for a moment I thought I saw oldie driving the loc with a big grin on his face
