Imagine 17 long hours in cattle class. Need frequent trips to the toilets if only to stretch the legs a bit. Need sufficient toilets. Wonder how those will look (and smell) like after 17 long hours. Some 'nice' passengers manage to make a fine mess after a 1-1/2 hour flight.
Oh, did I forgot to mention kids? Well, did you ever keep kids quiet for 17 hours?
I guess the friendly stewardesses will hand out 'zombie pills' to keep them quiet.

If one was pulling a flight this long, one would certainly be the other side of the curtain, with free flow champers, smoked salmon, seats which go flat, fluffy pjs and designer slippers welll away from the UK pikeys visting their criminal cousins in the land down under or the crocodile dundees seeing the big smoke for the first time Only Joshing Oldie...

^^ No you're not.
I was on a 13 hour flight from Santiago last week, no problem. Been on a 14 hour plus flight before. My main concern would be DVT.
The Iberia flight had zero standing space. I make a point of standing/stretching on flights as a pal died of a DVT aged 37. These super long flights must allocate space for passengers who wish to stretch their legs to do so.

Would a flimsy curtain be enough to stop the mutineering mob? Should we re-introduce free tickets to the Land of Oz, on more traditional modes of transport like in the First Fleet?

Well, did you ever keep kids quiet for 17 hours? Well, there was that occasion when I used a pillow. Fortunately the murder charges didn't stick.

Someone we both know got dvt flying Queensland to Bkk. It wouldn't be more than a 6 hour flight.

Ali akbar and his jungle dewller mates ignoring the advice to get seated and belted up, on his knees in the aisle grunting and waving his ass in the air as he leads the jungle dwellers in prayer. Years ago at Jeddah was a burned out fuselage where these hillbilly types had brewed up in the aisle. Check them out getting on an escaltor or in a lift, straight out the boonies. Got stuck with them one night years ago, flight delayed, some saudi prince hadnt finished his shopping in India, flight delayed to pick him up en route. Offloaded at DM and sent to some posh hotel, free food, these feckers decended on it like a plauge of locusts, hand straight into the bowls, sat on their effin ass (instead of a table)eating and tossing chicken bones over their shoulders. It was like something from Planet of The Apes. Used to love it on touch down in Jeddah or Riyadh, all these great unwashed would get out their seats and scramble for the overhead lockers while the plane was still taxying, despite frequent warning to remain seated. Pilot would hit the brakes and send them flying, they soon got the message.

We were thrown across our seats as he turned off. Not my favourite landing.

The problem with Perth it is a long way from anywhere. So those on the East coast take a 4 hour flight SW to get a 17 hour flight NW. When we go to Thailand (or return) we actually fly over our house twice over a minimum 6 hour period before we actually start going anywhere.
