Maputo or Lourenço Marques in another time before the Marxists, was considered the African Riveria at one point in time...not fairing too well days by all accounts This wiki page on Maputo is interesting. Seems the Authorities in Kaapstad called those in Fort Lydsaamheid 'lazy' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_MaputoWhat is interesting in that wiki llink...but debate and arguments over land, and the black majority suggesting the whiteys stole the land, the response is...the black tribes in Southern Africa, are not native to that part of Africa and they stole the land as well, as even this quote in your link suggests., "I, King Kepal [Kapell] do declare that I am induced to make this cession by the advice of my chiefs because I find my state too weak to defend themselves against the aggression of either Africans or Europeans."[8 . Although the Union Jack flew over the area, the United Kingdom had taken no steps to exercise authority over the territory, while the ravages of Zulus confined the Portuguese to the limits of their fort.[14] The Vatwas, a Nguni-speaking Zulu tribe, had recently migrated to the area, raiding the local villages for food And this was 1824 ! The Cape was settled by the whiteys in 1652

For us at school in Umtali it was Beira as a holiday destination. Mum & Dad would drive down from the Copperbelt, picking my sister up from Salisbury and then on to pick me up. Beira was great and the seafood was out of this world.
