Looking at the line-up before the Tunisia match....
I thought great Harry Kane is playing. Captain too. Then I looked at the rest of the team and thought.... where are they? Surely this isn't the best we've got. Did they get lost at the airport or something. Miss the plane?
Forwards:
- Rashford??? FFS. Totally vindicated my suspicions within minutes by squandering chances more or less from the kick off. Can't even hold down a regular place at ManUre. - Wellbeck??? Not sure who's worse. Rashford or ManUre reject and previous world cup failure Wellbeck. Start them both on the bench or better still leave them on a park bench in the UK. Seriously?
With those two that just leaves Harry Kane again. Plus maybe maybe Vardy as a back up
Midfield:
- Ashley Young??? Again can't even hold down a regular place at a second rate team like ManUre. Wasn't even quality in his prime. Age 32 you can't even say we're building for the future either.
- Lingard??? See comments for Ashley Young. At least a bit younger at 25.
BTW Someone tell Southgate that ManUre aren't the team they were when he was a player. Life has moved on.
- Jordan Henderson??? Has struggled to fill Gerrard's boots at club level, so hardly likely to do so at international level.
Defence: Back 3. Not a bad decision. With the quality in the squad, who would want a back 4? The fewer the better it would seem In fairness: - Kyle Walker I thought maybe reasonable and not too bad. He proved me wrong though with his <duck>wit display and penalty give away which would have cost us the match if it wasn't for Harry Kane - Kieran Trippier? Again not too bad. Dead ball specialist? A tag that was overhyped as the game progresses. He did monopolise every free kick. So full marks for effort, but really, it was just Tunisia - not exactly even Premier League quality defence
- Maguire. A 5000-1 Leicester City winner. We'll need better odds than that at the world cup for England to do anything. In fairness he was quite useful going forward, and got an assist, to yes Harry Kane. Better than expected, probably the one pleasant surprise.
So well done Harry Kane

Why? Can't the Russians just keep them? No, because they'll have no vodka left

Another great result of England. Last round a win on penalties, which is almost unheard of for England. This time a comfortable victory over Sweden, who usually park the bus, being boring but defensively very efficient, and then get a lucky break. Last night England scored first, so Sweden struggled with their one dimensional defensive style, and had to chase more than usual ------------------
Sweden 0-2 England: Harry Maguire and Dele Alli head England into World Cup semis
England will play Croatia in last four on Wednesday night in Moscow Headers from Harry Maguire and Dele Alli gave England a 2-0 win over Sweden as they reached their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years. England dominated the ball in Samara and were good value for the victory, but did have goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to thank for avoiding a nervous ending. After a laboured start, England took the lead through Maguire's header from a corner (30), his first international goal and England's fifth from a set-piece at this World Cup, more than any other side. www.skysports.com/football/sweden-vs-england/385228

Sterling is getting panned by nearly everyone but look at his work rate....he's a very important part of that team. Yes I know he can't score .

End of the day though he's an attacking midfielder who keeps fluffing his chances. Not many assists either. No goals now in something like 24 England games in a row. He's missed a few sitters at this world cup
A headless chicken does a lot of running around, but unless you're Welsh or Scottish, isn't going to add much to your national football team
