When I first came here hotels consisted of the second floor of a wooden structure dived into 6 * 10 rooms with a common dipper style bathroom. Travelling salesmen and mid level government employees stayed in them all the time as there was no alternative. Dangerous fire traps. We do not see any of these now as they either built into properly constructed (in relative terms) "hotels" or were shut down either by not getting more customers or by being encouraged to close. We have had a new breed of these spring up lately and I am not surprised they are being closed down, just like the older style Pun Pun was, knowing John I feel sorry for him but in fact I do not have a lot of sympathy. Times change and rebuilds and upgrades are needed. A few gems of course are lost in this of course but Thai expectations have risen so they no longer accept the kind of acomodation that was never permitted in the west. If you head out of Bkk to the industrial areas, these "asian businessman" hotels still exist, have lost count the number of evening I have spent with Japanese or Koreans, driving back to Bkk the mrs spots a sign for some temple fair or likay concert, no problem pullover and book into some flophouse. We were down Rayong way a few years ago and there was nearly a riot, the two likay guys had got into a fight just before the performance, the old grannies who had paid their 20 baht for a seat wanted their monies worth, there was almost a lynching, think someone had to wake up the temple abbot and get him out of bed to sort things out.

I took her indoors to Thong Nai Pan Noi a year or four ago...we stayed in a five star resort which was sensational.
She loved the place and was casting a wistful glance back as we left....and asked me how I knew of such a wonderful spot.
100 Baht a night was my answer and the place we stayed destroyed the natural phospherescent light on the surf once it was lit up...the memories are just that sadly.

Krabi Town must still have some 200 Baht specials surely? Inflation has struck....you do not get much for that now. Not much of a smile....and not what 200b would once get you.

Anyone know the names of guesthouses closed in Pattaya? Subject came up the other night and no-one knew of any. Interesting question, I have no answers, but first of all define a guesthouse, in Pattaya I dont know of any. What I do see are shophouse bars with rooms for rent upstairs, I wouldnt call them Chiang Mai style guesthouses. What I also see are once popular sois in Pattaya now almost empty, see PL 1 and 2 for details, heck even the gay boy massage parlours have moved out, now replaced with Indian Restos, as for sois 7 and 8, well I wouldnt be investing there. One thing I have noticed, is the amount of signs on all these sois with for sale or for rent on the outside. A once popular guesthouse I knew of was offered for sale at the bargain price of 23 million baht, the owners almost fell of their bar stool with laughter, the books were checked and the greedy landlord was told, we can get a better return just by putting our money in an Ozzy bank account. Never mind, every day thousand of suckers are landing, theres always some schmuck that buys into the dream, and he knows better.

Yes rgs the bars in the sois between 2nd Rd and the beach are largely done for. Many have closed and been re-opened as massage parlours, tattooists and as you say Indian caffs. With Indian customers and Indian staff. Still some people are prepared to pump money in, but I do not see anyone getting a return on it.
Having a drink in Soi Post now, noisy Soi but bare of punters. Yamato is the same.
Guest houses, yes Pattaya is mainly bar g/h's but still many gh only. And I do not know of any closed but I do not know it all. I am sure I was going to say something profound here but it has gone. I understand that ladies here are not over-greedy but naturally cannot confirm.

Enjoy it while you can, thanks for reminding me, I should pop into the Sailor Bar next time I am down that way, don’t know how much longer it will survive. Those who are in the know tell me gentlemen’s clubs are where it is at these days.

A few bars there are now "Gentleman's Club", whether they make money or not is anyone's guess. The Sailor Bar is still doing well, I was in there last month with the South Africans, must be the busiest bar in Soi 8. Which I suppose does not take a lot. I must be due a return trip, tonight was going to be a night off but we'll see.

Ha ha, a short while ago when I was there it flooded after thirty minutes rain. Near went arse over tit and broke something by stepping in a pothole that was hidden by the raging torrents. But mainly due to me we have gone seriously off topic, my apologies. I am surprised that some officious arse-licking member has not complained, or that a mod has not issued a correction. How refreshing, must come here again.

I know, I was just being a t wat, as soon as I hear names such as Chaiyaphum, I immediately think of Soo Lin and Boolee Lam. Sailor Bar will always do well, for the simple reason, they pay no rent, they own the land.

Aint that the truth, sexy man, . Many cant raise a smile these days never mind get it up. Bobby Charlton combovers, disgusting yellow ingrowing toenails, nicotine stained fingers, missing teeth, those bargirls deserve every penny and red cent they can screw out those lecherous old bastids.
