Is "Ahmed Aboutabel" a traditional Dutch name? To me it looks about as Dutch as "Sadiq Khan" who's London's mayor. After a while such differences disappear. May take more than a few years though. Of course, with some immigrant communities (e.g. ethnic Chinese) in Europe they take on forenames from the host country to help with their assimilation. Just thinking of a few famous British Chinese ones: Naomi Campbell, Burt Kwouk, Benedict Wong, David Yip, Nancy Lam, Alan Yau, Vanessa Mae, Kenneth Lo. Gok Wan is an exception, but then he's a bit odd. Even he simplified his name from the original Kowkhyn to make it easier for Occidentals. |
