Since 1942 Australian taxpayers have been paying Welfare Tax. It was introduced by the govt to assist with paying for the cost of war because they had promised not to increase income tax. In 1980 it was simply included in general revenue. You could say it was the taxpayers super fund but of course govts have just spent it on frivolous things like foreign aid. Now they are trying to tell us that pensions are unsustainable. Yes, our kids are paying our pensions but only because successive govts have spent our (taxpayers) welfare payments instead of managing the funds for the future.
