Are other Muslim countries the same?
I keep seeing online reports that Japan does not allow Muslims to enter, how accurate is this?

The Japanese are in truth none to co-operative in letting non Japanese take up residence whether long or short term.
Their Immigration a policy is mainly NO!! Refugee's are not welcome. Note that their( the Japanese) terrorism rate is minimal, bit of local terrorism once in a blue moon but no foreign devils stirring the mire.

I may be wrong, but I think they are not permitted to convince to convert.

I may be wrong, but I think they are not permitted to convince to convert. Are you referring to Moslems? If so, then you're absolutely wrong. Moslems are explicitly allowed to lie to convert (taqiya). Following the example of the "perfect man", they are allowed to threaten with death (and execute if don't convert), and to impose an unbearable tax (jizya) on non-Moslems to force them to convert.

There are Mosques in Japan, however, it is clear just how many Muslims there are and what percentage of them may be native born Japanese citizens. the second link gicves some idea of th current or thereabouts population of Japan en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mosques_in_Japanen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_JapanThe history of Islam in Japan is relatively brief in relation to the religion's longstanding presence in other nearby countries. Islam is one of the smallest minority faiths in Japan, having more adherents in the country than the Bahá'í faith, but fewer than Christianity. There were isolated occasions of Muslims in Japan before the 19th century. Today, Muslims are made up of largely immigrant communities, as well as smaller ethnic Japanese community.[1] In 2016, Japan accepted 0.3% of refugee applicants, many of whom are Muslim

A bit simple said, but in the early 17th century Japan threw out the Portuguese who had converted locals to Christianity and only allowed the Dutch to trade from a single port as the Dutch were interested in trade only rather than conversion.

You seem one of the most clued up people on this ideology.
To save me a google search could you please explain (spelling will be wrong) what the difference to something being 'haram' vs it being 'neshous'?
Is it the same thing, different words?

"haraam" means "forbidden", so refers to things that Moslems must avoid, such as pork, alcohol. It can also refer to a religious activity that is forbidden because one is ritually impure or not permitted.
"najis" means "ritually impure", so the individual has to perform some sort of mumbo jumbo ritual before being able to pray again. How one becomes impure varies according to school of thought. Common causes include contact with dead bodies, dogs, faeces, and non-Moslems.

Has some similarity to RC "churching" of women after childbirth, as they were considered ritually impure until receiving this blessing from a priest.
