Yes you are obviously very straightforward for them to deal with. My surprise was the speed of their response to you, I was previously under the impression that it took a while for them to re-adjust the pension. Presumably people who make life simpler get treated better, common sense really.

Presumably people who make life simpler get treated better, common sense really. If you visit the UK and call them they will adjust your pension right there and then, your next payment will include the cost of living increase and that will continue until you tell them you have left or until they realise that you have done so. I've done that a few times when I've been on holiday there and it's a very smooth and quick process.

Back to "basic income", I wonder if you could combine getting 'basic income' with automatic having your 'voting rights put on hold'.
May sound a bit undemocratic but if you select for such hand-out I don't think you should have much say in matters anymore. Of course, once you terminate you're basic income dependency by going on a job hunt and changing from 'basic income' to 'social security' your voting rights would be restored.
The idea just popped up, haven't given it much thought. May prove to be a stupid idea, but at least someone would have given the reasoning why it would be a stupid idea.

Why should there be a link between voting rights and income level or source, it smacks of, "here's the kings shilling, take it and we decide everything for you because you are now in our service". No, if there's to be a common basic income it must be unconditional others wise some will take and some will not, on the basis of unacceptable T's and C's.

Why should poor people be allowed to vote? They've been unable to make a success of their own lives, so really have nothing to contribute to the successful running of the country.
For that matter, why should stupid people be allowed to vote? Only let people with postgraduate qualifications in serious subjects have the vote (and stand to be MPs).

Can't say that letting idiots vote has worked out too well for the United States recently.

It says more about dissatisfaction with the status quo than anything else, that doesn't make those voters idiots but it speaks volumes about the alternatives.

No, people voted for someone who was like them, bigoted, racist, arrogant, and utterly unqualified for the job of president. Someone who has virtually no understanding of what is going on in the world. Someone who gets their "news" through the distorted lens of Fox News and other faux news outlets. They admire him because he was on TV. They love him because he insults his opponents and gives them silly names - he's entertaining. (Of course, he needs the insults because he's incapable of debating issues with them. He's barely capable of stringing together a single coherent sentence.) So no, it doesn't speak volumes about the alternatives. It speaks directly to the crass stupidity of the American masses and their utter inability to see that his policies do nothing for them, and are only to help himself and his wealthy associates. Only idiots would vote to have universal healthcare taken away, or for massive tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and corporations, or an utterly pointless wall.

That's one of the reason I mentioned both 'basic income' and 'social security'. The first can be chosen by those who do not want the bother of work, the second is for those still 'available' even if maybe not too actively searching. If you deliberately choose the 'hand out' for a 'better quality' life you should also 'pay' the price. Still not sure I had a good idea, but at least I'm getting input

I read your first statement above (and no further) and realized there is no chance of balanced discussion with you on this subject, given your opinion of the majority of Americans.

given your opinion of the majority of Americans. I haven't expressed an opinion on "the majority of Americans", only on the 25.7% of eligible voters who voted for the pussy-grabbing, whore-mongering, criminal imbecile who's now in the White House.

Hell, it's not like he's the 1st one like that to hold the presidency.

Not taking sides regarding American politics in all their political gory glory story, but I do think that the contents in the item contained in the link below are indeed a judgement on how the average(?) colonial views the concept of politics and thus democracy. Might well explain how the orange-headed one made it to the White House. Such success may possibly be based upon the images used by the two parties in the colonies political makeup, ie an elephant and a donkey and now it seems a goat too. Mind you it seems as if goats are the leaders in many ways in the animal intelligence stakes. Probably a great attribute in the colonies political games applies to politics worldwide too truth be known. www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/breakingnews/30365468?utm
