A case of "Read me lips"? 1200 long-stay travelers? From China" The sort of high-quality tourists which is to be preferred above dirty backpackers? "Shaking off delay, tourism ministry promises tourists this month Despite a delay in the first batch of tourists under the special tourist visa (STV), the Tourism and Sports Ministry vows to bring in 1,200 long-stay travellers in October. "The first two groups from China had a prospective schedule of Oct 8, but as we need to settle some entry processes, those itineraries have to be rescheduled to another date in October," said Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn." www.bangkokpost.com/business/1995839/shaking-off-delay-tourism-ministry-promises-tourists-this-month

Didn't I read somewhere that in fact the first group isn't a group of tourists, but a party of Chinese businessmen led by Dhanin Chearavanont (Thailand's second richest man, CP Group)? Flying to Phuket, was it, to sort out some business deals? Not exactly tourists, high quality or otherwise.

You can google Chinese paid holidays. They won't be back anytime soon.

Why not just have tourists handcuffed to chaperones at the airport and do the transactions up front, they could set up a gold fish bowl in Arrivals, "take your pick of whom you want to spend your holiday with". This would all be for a fee of course hence the, ahem, industry would have to be nationalized. I imagine that approach would help the country with its standing as a medical hub also, I'm thinking hand reattachment would be popular after a while.

Why not just have tourists handcuffed to chaperones at the airport I think the Thai authorities would prefer a simpler solution: at the airport empty your wallets and your bank accounts , then <duck> off back to your own country.

I have a bright idea, setup a chaperone matching service. With a scientific approach, including astrology and Crystal Ball gazing, palm reading and a few more as such. All to ensure a perfect match, customer satisfaction [sic] and happiness in the Land of Smiles. I just need some financial support to set this up. Please donate at my fundme page #fornumberone

Remember when going on holiday was just plain fun? "Foreign visitors hit with more obstacles Russian and European tourists started booking rooms at Alternative State Local Quarantine (ASLQ) hotels in Pattaya of Chon Buri province, but were then blocked from organising flights to the kingdom after Thai Consulate-Generals said they were only allowed to quarantine in Bangkok and its surrounding areas. Thanet Supornsahasrungsi, president of the Chon Buri Tourism Council, told media on Wednesday that the ASLQ hotels in Chon Buri had passed health standards, adding that Russian and European guests had already booked their rooms. According to the consulates, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has blocked ASLQs altogether, so the large number of foreign tourists who booked the hotels in Pattaya to quarantine for 14 days and stay, failed, he said." www.bangkokpost.com/business/2006035/foreign-visitors-hit-with-more-obstacles

Remember reading about those 'quarantine hotels' for foreign visitors? "CORONAVIRUS FOUND ON FITNESS GEAR IN QUARANTINE HOTEL Thai health authorities Sunday said COVID-19 virus was found on the surface of fitness equipment in a hotel gym where an infected patient was quarantined. “However, rest assured, health officials had conducted swab tests on 67 people in the hotel and all were cleared of infection,” said Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, Director-General of the Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health." www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2020/10/26/coronavirus-found-on-fitness-gear-in-quarantine-hotel/

You think that Room Service doesn't spread the virus? And it turns out that the French woman never went to the hotel gym, so the virus got there from somewhere else - perhaps one of the room service staff?
