, the place reminded me of the works canteen at Warton. Remember going to his new place up in on nut, but the twat had sold it and moved on before we were able to give him any abuse, last I heard he was down Hua Hin way. All of the years he dished out shitty grub from the back of the pub and Brian has now got his mojo and selling barbecue ribs etc in Hua Hin....I've tried them...they really are excellent...the irony as I used to avoid most of the crap sold in his Bangkok pub. You were lucky, we were going to put the bill for the nights merriment and entertaintment on your bill, , 55555/ Havent been down that way in years, I hate driving that road, the furthest I get these days is Crazy Chef territorty at the boxhead village in Cha Am, turn right at the trafic lights then do another right at the next traffic lights, then hang a left, its like a step back in time. Got to give our boxhead friends their due, they wont accept inferior beer or ham etc etc, verboten.

Go midweek...never ever at the weekend because that is somchai hell. 2. Lunch from the seafood stalls an absolute must....best value outside Rayong...and the krapow place on the corner of their bar st is one of the finest anywhere in the country. Small things make for great trips.

I feel your pain, you are not alone. In a city of 10 million+, why is it so hard to find a decent boozer selling decent ale, even the plastic paddy pubs seem to be catering to the lowest common denominator, TEFLr types knocking back cheapo 99 baht pints of euro fizz, or the southern island types with man buns wanting bia chang. Bkk has never been the same ever since Jools closed its doors. Bangkok ain't the same without Jools . And a move to Khao San from Lower Suk is the same as closing down. Last Guinness I had in BKK was in the Royal Oak Soi 33/1. 170 in happy hour. Good stuff.

Nice to see all the ASQers who have spent two grand or more and fourteen days in prison have merely moved to the prison yard where they may congregate and consume liquor from the stills out of sight of the guards.

So I bought a small can of Krungthep Cream Ale at 7-11. 320ml, 65 Baht, alc 5%. Not familiar with cream ales, but it tastes nice. It is a small can though, should have bought two

I've seen the new Jools and I recommend you don't bother. Sheepshank on the river down there is very pleasant however with some excellent beers....a nod to the OP there...but not Guinness I think. My best times in Jools was when fletch and matty owned it, after them, Big dave. The old bangkok types like Stan and Big Spence moved onto contracts elsewhere, the latest bunch of freshies werent the same, they arrived too late, they were looking for something that no longer existed. One always hates to contradict but Stan was bad with cancer for a long while and eventually passed in the Mission hospital. Your mate said Jools "merely" moved to Samsen Rd. "merely" FFS. I did go once but it was a sad trip, though I might go again next time in Bangers if I can.

The place in Samsen is just a sad shopfront cafe thing....not even comparable...I'd be surprised if still there. The live music place opposite with blues most nights is by contrast a superb bar.

Well done rubes. Not even looked at the fb page for a very long time. At least he's not letting unemployment or Stoke City get him down.
