Reports of Thailands demise, , never mind what the e beggars and u tubers tell you,its just the opposite. Was in Bang Saen this weekend, from the S2 hotel to the roundabout, the beach was mobbed, cars were triple parked on beach rd, vendors doing a roaring trade, families having a great time, hotels and beach side bungalows full. Well done Bang Saen, great little town, will be back again at the end of the month.

Samui sits empty meanwhile with hotels being mothballed and going to ruin.
Its perfect to my mind...its time nature reclaimed these shitholes.

I went to Phuket and Samui in 1986, then again in 2006. I had to poke my eyes with knitting needles. Couldn't believe they were the same place. Then again, it was 20 years. I might go back again one day.

^^^ I also went to Phuket in the mid-80s. (It's where I learned to scuba dive.) I really didn't like it even then. Far too busy. Very expensive. (Food was roughly four times what I was paying elsewhere in Thailand.) Really annoying touts with laser pointers. Never been back.

Come on rgs bang saen is not exactly a standard indicator, it is essentially a student place and has it's own rules. You tactfully do not mention distancing, masks or alcohol. But I cannot help but wonder. Having said all that I have never been there but I have spoken to some who have.!! 😁

Bang Saen and Sri Ratcha, been there a few times, a long time ago. Used to be popular with Thai who wanted to leave Bangkok for a moment in the weekend. Good food but could be crowded beach. Not many foreigners. Haven't been there for a long time, so might have changed. Would imagine still mostly Thai. BTW if Bangkok's public transport like BTS/MRT/BRT and so is representative I wonder where all foreigners are. Mostly I'm the only one to the point people start to remember / know me

Masks, about 90+% of people walking around were masked, on the beach at different story. Distancing, the Thais tend to social distance by themsleves anyway, each group on the beach kept to their own social circle, same same as they always do. Alcohol, I wasnt in that part of town, I was in a resort at the other end so cant comment on bars etc, the beach vendors are no longer allowed to serve alcohol, in Thai style, there is always a 7 across the road,or bring your own. I certainly didnt go without, and in the bungalows around me, neither did anyone else. In the past 6 months I have observed the exact same in Sattahip, Nakorn Nayork and Bang Saen, I will concede, not your usual farang indicator, but on the other cheek of the same ass, Pattaya is not you standard Thai indicator.

The best damm Tom Ka Khai in Thailand can be found in Bang Saen, the curried crab is bloody tasty as well, tip, always seek out those muslim vendors, those women can cook up a storm.

A certain amount of denial involved possibly, on the level of Wenger and Nelson.?? It is not really a Thailand indicator but good luck to them. This is one of my drinking nights so I will finish before I burst into song. I think I meant to say that they are not contributors to the Thai economy in the same way as Pattaya etc

I liked it then because it was novel. And I don't recall it being that expensive. Mind you, I had absolutely no concept of finance. Come to think of it, I still don't.

Led inside, full lesbo show on stage, dropped my kecks, bj on the house, drank a bellyful of beer and on exit given a choice of a bottle of vodka or whisky to take home. See you there next week shall I?
