Proof finally emerges from a TV Forum financial expat in Bangkok that the Baht is being manipulated:
"I know a bloke whose friends mum met a chap in a pub and he works for BOT in Bangkok. He was saying that one day at work he saw this supervisor acting suspicious like so one morning he followed him. He said this chap snuck into the back room, covert like, the room where nobody’s supposed to go, you know, the one where they keep that big machine, the one that controls the Baht exchange rate everywhere in the world? Anyway, he peeked round the door and he couldn’t believe his eyes, he said, this chap was turning the big wheel on the front of the machine and making the Baht stronger, can you believe it? He went back to his desk and waited and then towards the end of the day, just before everyone's supposed to go home for their tea, this chap snuck back in and turned the wheel back the other way so it looked like nothing had happened, imagine that! He said he was totally gob smacked. He didn’t know what to do, imagine all those people around the world changing their holiday money for Baht and not getting enough because this bloke was fiddling the rates. Anyway, he said he went to tell his supervisor but he didn’t want to know, he pulled him aside and told him to stay schtum, you know, nod nod wink wink like, told him he’d see him right if he kept it zipped. So yea, it’s an open secret at the bank, everyone knows but nobody wants to say anything in case they wake up with a horses head in their bed or something. Meanwhile, all the hi-so’s are out buying and lambogeenies and feraryies overseas, only between 10 and 4 mind you, ‘cos they know the machine’s been reset you see! It’s a travesty really, somebody should say something. Listen, here’s a top tip for you, if you want to change your holiday money, do it between 12th and 26th September ‘cos that’s when this bloke takes his annual leave and the rate doesn’t get changed while he’s on his hols".
