70 Baht per Pound will mean you end up being taxed on your pension in Thailand, be careful what you wish for.

It wouldn't do to stray too far off topic (god forbid) but it does seem as though there may be some tax issues with the new regulations that come into effect 1 Jan next year. Neither I nor anyone else understands them completely because the Revenue hasn't made several things clear but UK State pension is not fully protected by a Double Tax Treaty and UK Private Pensions certainly aren't. Sherrings, the tax people, have already confirmed that private pensions will be subject to Thai tax, even though they may have been taxed in the home country, but double taxation will of course be covered by the DTA but only as a credit, not as a refund. The plus side is that Thai allowances and deductions afford the tax filer at least 340k of tax free money, before the 5% band starts to bite. This is all still very much, work in progress so the definitive answers are not yet known. But it would be a mistake to assume at this point that just because something is taxed elsewhere that it wont be taxed here.

A bit adrift but what impact might the Israeli Hamas spat have on oil prices? Any upward rise in price plus a downward move in production of oil could and would do serious damage to the Thai baht and the economy of Thaland as well as other countries The oil producing countries could and possibly would have the West by the short and curlies. American involvement is going to be a catalyst for both world and economic peace.

America claimed that they were sending assistance to Vietnam, look at what that assistance resulted in...
United States: President Joe Biden says his country's support for Israel is "rock solid and unwavering". The US has deployed ships and aircraft to the region and said it will send additional munitions to Israel.
Will Israel like Iran who are rumoured to have access to nuclear weapons be able to or willing to exercise restraint and keep their nuclear weapons out of the issue?
Those whom the gods wish to destroy first make mad.

The problem with an exchange rate that gets better every day is that we get too comfortable, we get used to it. Then, one day, whoosh, it starts a rapid descent into oblivion. Chiang Mai's third law of currency exchange says, the rate will only begin to fall when once we have got used to it being high. His seventh rule says, the rate will fall into oblivion, 6.5 faster than it took to reach its peak. It takes a fair time to massage it to culmination but the net time to flaccidity is very short!

My take on the issue is,grab it whilst it's there. It's a bonus and not for me to to be factored into our normal monthly budget. Its fun money, or a bonus savings deposit.

What exchange rate would be considered enough of a windfall to warrant bringing in additional funds.?
Answers on whatever comes to hand.
