Not really my business nor interest but somehow I was pleasantly surprised to see a constituency MP to really care for his constituency. Nigel Farage revealed to be UK’s highest-earning MP Reform UK leader banked £1.2m from role as presenter on GB News and payments from social media ... Farage also revealed that his visit to the US on 17 July – in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump – cost £32,000 and was funded by Christopher Harborne, a Thailand-based crypto investor who previously gave millions to the Brexit party. The purpose was recorded as “to support a friend who was almost killed and to represent Clacton on the world stage”. ... www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/aug/16/nigel-farage-revealed-to-be-uks-highest-earning-mp

Anyone rumoured to be to the right of (think of a suitable name) and the fearless hero from Holland rises up and smites him down.

Well, thanks to Nigel Farage I now know where Clacton-on-Sea is. For those still unsure: "The town is situated around 77 miles north-east of London, 40 miles east-north-east of Chelmsford, 58 miles north-east of Southend-on-Sea, 16 miles south-east of Colchester and 16 miles south of Harwich." Furthermore it's easy for dear Nigel to commute to the Houses of Parliament: "Trains are operated by Greater Anglia and generally run hourly to London Liverpool Street via Colchester and Chelmsford; the full journey takes about 90 minutes." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clacton-on-Sea

I've been to Butlins at Clacton. It wasn't my fault I was still in short kecks, my mum and dad insisted. We also had a few nights in London before getting the train home.

Gran used top live in Kirby Cross, a small hamlet outside Frinton, just down the road from Clacton. Frinton was genteel at the time, everyone was well heeled. Grandpa had a retirement job collecting entrance fees to Clacton Pier. He was a dignified 1800s man who fought in the Somme and was born with a white handlebar moustache. His job before the war was a taxi driver in London, driving a coach and four.....can you imagine.

My mother would take me and my brothers & sisters to the Zoo and Open Air Museum on the North side of Arnhem. We would WALK and it's a hilly area. Mind you, not as bad as in Limburg province in the South where the Dutch mountains are.

It goes without saying that we'd been to the one at Pwhelli, home from home for scousers, mancs and other lowlife.

Seems as the taking of emoluments is not the sole prerogative of Nigel Farage, seems the new Labour government ministers are totally happy and willing to grab the cash and other inducements to influence matters that can and will affect the country and the electorate in negative fashion(s). One wonders if leads are being taken from our local politicians? Cabinet ministers accepted hundreds of thousands in union donations Unions Sir Keir Starmer’s top team accepted a total of £480,030 in cash and donations in kind from the party’s union backers before awarding multiple pay deals to public sector workers in recent weeks. The MPs’ register of financial interests revealed union donations to Wes Streeting, Louise Haigh and Yvette Cooper. Read the analysis here.
The Telegraph understands Labour plans to repeal the Tory Trade Union Act within weeks with a law that will allow unions to strike even if most of their members do not vote for it.

I only ever went on one holiday as a kid....that 3 days in a caravan outside of Glenrotten...and no sea views. Making up for it now though.

I'm a believer in strong unionisation. Without it the UK has been reduced to chaos....and by strong I mean representative and fair...not political and militant.
