And it's £2,500 less than I thought it was - happy days.
Anyway - moi, and my Dad, have been arguing out whether I should pay it off. I'm against paying it off while the interest rate is so low - I'm on a tracker and I think I'm paying 2.69% ( I suppose I should check ). Once the interest rates start rising I'll pay it - until then it's cheap money, and my capital is better served elsewhere. ( In my opinion ).
In years gone past - to have ever received a rate of 2.69% or thereabouts on your mortgage would have been the stiff of not dreams, fantasies more like. So who's right - Moi? or my Dad?

With rates this low I'd be more inclined to keep the mortgage. Actually low mortgage rates were one reason I was actually thinking about buying a property in UK. Although there were others too. people's financial situation and attitude differs though.
One of the biggest questions to answer is where is or where are you going to put the money? When you say better served elsewhere. Likey you can earn over 2.69 % but what are the risks?

If your £'s are earning/can earn more than 2.69% over the remaining term of the mortgage, best to leave it (assuming no tax on earnings or tax deduction on mortgage interest)...

If you lived in the real world where everyday items are not outta reach, you could have easily paid it off in one fell swoop.
Get away from the unnecessary West. Only bring ya down.

I was contemplating retiring to a Temple and getting the villagers to feed me, but that would be mean being idle on the forum. So I can't do that.

Keep the mortgage? Pay it off quick as you can with low interest rates and get that horrid word out of your life.
Not sure why you think keep it going any longer than needed? It's the number one reason I'm stuck working.
