Many like to retire by the sea. Watching the sea is OK, but nothing to sky watching in Thailand. This afternoon low clouds were streaming in from the South East, above them high clouds barely moving but in general from a Westerly direction. Normally we are hit by the monsoon from the West, today was spectacular. Any other sky watchers? www.wga.hu/art/c/constabl/dedham3.jpgConstable, Dedham Lock.

In case you were unaware, most buildings, houses are positioned East/ West, in Thailand, unlucky to be in any other direction.
Sleeping, bed head to the East, foot to the West.
Our house is of an East / West design.
The West face has fewer windows and is battered by storm rains.
Today was special, the East facing front of the house received a battering, very rare.
I will consult my astrologer and my Feng Shui sage.

Thankfully I married a Bkk girl and dont have to endure old wives tales.
Yes it started battering down again today right on time, 6 o'clock.

I too married a Bangkok girl.
At about eleven this morning all hell let loose from the skies, ruining my intended lunch excursion.
Ate at home.
Two o'clock drove my wife to the local hospital, bright sunshine.
To pick up my step son's prescription.
Five O'clock sky gazing, incredible movements of clouds.
Pilot's nightmare.
Seven O'clock , winds had changed direction again and all hell of a downpour and wicked winds.
Now calm as am I.

Open your eyes, (old wives tales or folklore) almost all buildings in Thailand are aligned East West. Hence straight roads.
Find a Christian church with a steeple that is not aligned East. The altar is at the East of the aisle.
Superstition, folklore or whatever, it is not confined to wife's not from Bangkok!
It is universal; that is strange beliefs.
The East West one has a reason in Thailand, the strongest winds and rain are mostly from a westerly direction.
I can prove that in our house, the West facing side is predominantly battered and has fewer windows, as designed.
Do a survey; very easy, moisture grows algae, where on buildings do you find it, West side or East?

I know nothing of churches and altars, wasnt the foundation stone always laid in the NE?

My error , the spire is West and the altar East. No wonder I always got lost!
Houses opposite aligned exactly the same , East West. It does not matter which is the front or back. The front of our house is East, which is preferable if you have a garden at the front, as it is cooler in the afternoon heat as the sun has passed to the West.
Foundation stone, I do not know.

My house is south facing, upstairs master bedroom faces east. Living room downstairs faces east. Hence they arent getting fried by the heat during the day. West side of house, downstairs the kitchen, upstairs storage room.

Living room downstairs faces east. Hence they arent getting fried by the heat during the day. West side of house, downstairs the kitchen, upstairs storage room. The condo block, each apartment is aligned East West. The building can be large North South, but is almost always aligned to the compass points. Most Thai sleep head to East and feet West. The dead are (before cremation) laid head West and feet East. This is also found in Western culture, where West symbolises a journey to death and East rebirth. Rgs , is your house aligned NSEW, and as you have said the bedroom is aligned East West, that is the important room, how you sleep.
