Alienate "friends that is.
I walk the line.
My lunchtime dining place has been closed for two days.
Big deal, no problem, plenty of other places to eat.
The daughter's shop still open.
I concerned about her mother; was she ill?
"No, wanted a rest."
I replied I also wanted not to eat for two days.
Then the friendly smiles turned off.
I continued, that as a teacher I was expected to be in class no matter what.
When I ran a teaching school in Thailand, I expected my staff to turn up.
If you have a business or hobby, say so.
If it is a buisiness I have expectations.
Seven Eleven closed, did not feel like opening today.
Electricity off, sorry no one turned up to work today.
Mai pen rai.
This is not some feudal ideal land!
"<duck> your television, <duck> your stupid mentality!"
I then pointed out the obvious, that countries with hot and cold seasons have to plan ahead, it is in our mental inculcation.
Thai, will complain it is "cold" nou in a few weeks time.
At that I leave my rage.
Nice daughter, I asked her why she was not working, why at thirty still dependent on her parents?
" I will look after them when they are too old to look after themselves."
Answer of a feudal serf!

Time to think of number one.
....and that is YOU. Never forget the you in the equation of life. Take the 'l' and the 'e' out of life and you're left with the if.
Simplify.

But we are all on the same page.
We have been taught to think, to question, to predict.
Season follows season and you plan ahead.
Alone you survive, not dependent on an omniscient leader, god.

Answer of a feudal serf! Would you have said the same to the daughter of the owner of a single person restaurant in the UK or US closing at Easter?

Yes, if they were meant to be open.
What is your point?
7/11 post before hand as do all good businesses.
I don't feel well today; what is your contingency plan?

Well I do not need to have my daily tipple and if I did I would be able to keep some extra in the fridge. Anyone who has just a litte money and goes hungry in thailand has only themselves to blame.

Well I do not need to have my daily tipple and if I did I would be able to keep some extra in the fridge. Anyone who has just a litte money and goes hungry in thailand has only themselves to blame. If you had read my post, I did state that friend Oi not open yesterday was no big deal. I walked a short distance and enjoyed a very satisfactory steak. I do not have to leave my house, vendors selling food pass by regularly and I know which ones come at particular times. I can cook ,as can my wife. There is always plenty to eat at home. I enjoy going out for lunch and have posted before of the local places I dine at. The piece was not about food availability, but of a Thai attitude to work as opposed to my inbred Western protestent work ethic. No I am not a protestant, I refer to the culture of work in two very different cultures. How many people does it take to run a 7/11, bank etc in Thailand compared to any European country? If you have ever worked in Thailand, with Thai staff, you might understand . "Mai pen rai," Always summer, fish in the water , rice in the fields, fruit on the trees. “ “In the time of King Ramkhamhaeng this land of Sukhothai is thriving. In the water there are fish, in the field there is rice. The ruler does not levy a tax on the people who travel along the road together, leading their oxen on the way to trade and riding their horses on the way to sell. Whoever wants to trade in horses, so trades. Whoever wants to trade in silver and gold, so trades . . .” r
