I switched to Kaspersky antivirus after using Bitdefender for a year, simply because I wanted a change and now Kaspersky displays messages every time I click on and try to open and read a TVF thread, the message is: Blocked by Web Anti-Virus Reason: threat of data loss Detection method: heuristic analysis Anyone have similar? Only about 75% of the threads return the message and I can't see any common denominator other than news related threads do not. I have two computers in the house, none have anti virus fitted. Win XP still going good after all these years. Windows 10 (I hate it) but seems to be good after over one year of use. I dont like security systems taking over my system, that being said, its probably not your computer system at fault.

My defence systems are as follows No. 1: Windows-KB890830-x64-V5.67 A superb find and clean and free virus and trojan removal tool from Windows updated every two weeks,it works well ''FREE WARE. No 2: Supernantispyware, www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE No. 3: Malwarebytes, www.malwarebytes.com, again FREE They've worked well for me over the years. As a useful extra tool try this, we find sometimes that certain programmes are ''challenging'' to remove (AVAST anti virus being the biggest culprit of all) , so if you want a ruthless programme removal tool that removes all, '' blood guts and dead donkeys doings'' I suggest the following beast here... www.wisecleaner.com there is also a good range of other free tools from Wise to deal with many an issue. I just recently deleted by accident an 8 gigabyte movie collection file however I used Recuva from the following site www.ccleaner.com/recuva/download and managed to recover the complete file in mint condition. CC cleaner(crap cleaner) has been my ''chucking out cyber charlady for many years. Note though if you've run files through a file shredding programme they are overwritten and basically nonrecoverable

Malwarebytes and Ccleaner is enough unless you're into gimp mask sites like our old English public schoolboys. Wink...wink...

Win XP rg, you really have gone native! I used to like XP also but I uograded to Windows 10 about the same time I gave up my abacus. I darent mention Office 2000 then, . Fair do's, I also used Office 2k for years and years.
But I changed when the Office CD I'd bought years earlier finally gave up the ghost, today I use the free version of WPS Office which is easily available on the web and is pretty much identical to MS Office in every respect so there's no associated learning curve, it's a great product.
And since we're liting our software here:
I run Kasperkey free anti-virus which has almost zero overhead, instal it and forget about it. I also use Zone Alarm free firewall whcih is considered by many to be the best of breed and once again, it has no real overhead but is a big improvement over the Windows firewall.
Firefox as a browser, NitroPro as a PDF reader, WinRAR for file compression and CCleaner, all freeware - if you use Firefox in private browing mode it doesn't save history so it negates the need to use CCleaner, a Firefox add-on called Cookie Auto delete deletes cookies in almost real time so disk space management and privacy are never issues. Adblock Plus and Ghostery take care of all unwanted advertising.

Used ZoneAlarm for some 8 years, but it was taken over by another company and the thing was it tried to take over my system. Like you WPS Office works great and seamless integration when needed too. Often think that it's a case of what suits one person may not suit another comfort zone scene methinks.

Yes I agree, it's all personal choice stuff....agreed also about ZA, it does lean in that direction and I've dropped it previously for that very reason - but I keep going back to it because the firewall is very very good.
