Back for his fourth outing as James Bond in Spectre, Daniel Craig opens up candidly to Dave Calhoun about the new movie, why he’s so over being Bond right now and how stepping out of the sea in those blue trunks was a complete accident.If you want to know how James Bond – sorry, Daniel Craig – starts the day, we can tell you. Two double espressos with honey, poached eggs on toast, with another double espresso to follow. So, basically: eggs, caffeine, caffeine, caffeine, and a little honey to soften the blow.

Craig needs all the help he can get when we meet in early July – just four days previous the 47-year-old finished an epic eight-month shoot for Spectre, the latest Bond movie. It’s the British actor’s fourth occasion portraying the secret agent, and his second with director Sam Mendes after 2012’s Skyfall – which earned over US$1 billion. No pressure, then. Another double espresso, please…If an actor was offered Bond and came to you asking advice, what would you say to him – or her?
Literally I’d say two things. Firstly, it’s your decision. Don’t listen to anybody else. Well, do listen to everybody, but you have to make the choice at the end of the day. It’s your bed to lie on. And don’t be shit! Don’t be shit. You’ve got to step up. People don’t make movies like this any more. This is really rare now, so don’t be shit.

And if someone rang you and said, “I’ve taken the 007 gig,” what advice would you have for them?
“Don’t be shit! Go for it. Embrace it.” Some clichéd line like that. But no, just make sure you’re great. You’ve got to push yourself as far as you can. It’s worth it, it’s James Bond.

No naked women to go with that breakfast order, seems unlike Bond. In 2015, can we have a woman in a Bond film whose third dimension isn’t her boobs? Can a woman be more than a femme fatale or flirty sidekick? Can we have a Bond Girl who isn’t a sacrificial lamb at the altar of Bond’s masculinity?

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it, plenty of action, a car to die for, and Bond was Bond, a fun romp for sure.

^^ Best Bond song for me was "Live & Let Die."
