Further to my last post: 700cc bottle of Jamesons in UK is GBP 22, 1 tin of Bacon Spam is GBP 1.69. Therefore, in the UK for the same price as a bottle of Jamesons you can get 13 tins of Bacon Spam. 700cc bottle of Jamesons in Tesco Lotus is Baht 1,099, 1 tin of Bacon Spam is Baht 210. Therefore, in Thailand for the same price as a bottle of Jamesons you can get 5 tins of Bacon Spam. As long as the retailers of spam in Thailand insist on these ridiculous prices I am boycotting Spam and investing my money in bottles of Jamesons instead. This action makes perfect sense to me. So true, its cheaper to eat steak or pork. Back to your Big Mac Index, I remember not so long ago a bottle of Jamesons was 490 baht, at 70 baht to the pommie peso, 7 off your pommie pounds please. These days, same bottle will now cost 20 of my pommie pesos, and people think this is a cheap country to live in. No wonder idignant from Issan or p**sed off in Pattaya frequent the 'net and bemoan the passing of The Empire. You want a laff, check out the prices of NON alcoholic beer from Germany, next time you are in Big C. Girl up my way offered me some, bia dek (beer for children) the other week, couldnt believe it.

Alcohol free beer, as my old friend RGS would say, 'Good Gawd man, that's like a peaceful war'. I remember the = 74 to the quid, they were good times to visit and party. I was living and working in Hong Kong when the markets crashed in 97, the Baht went from 3 Baht to 1 HK Dollar to 7 Baht to 1 HK Dollar in six months.I was visiting Thailand nearly every other weekend for a year because it was so much cheaper than staying in Wan Chai.I retained a travel agent like some would retain a stock broker, he used to phone me a couple of times each week to inform me of the best flight deals available (2 for 1 business class, which I would split with one of his other clients, etc.) Good times and full on partying. Alas, as already mentioned by RGS, Thailand is no longer a cheap place, In the past fags and booze where dirt cheap and food was cheaper but those days are now gone.

Not to put you off your Spam onionluke, but have you read this? www.scmp.com/article/543943/customs-seize-record-haul-counterfeit-foodCustoms officers have sought help from the Guangdong authorities following the seizure of a record haul of food cans bearing the well known Ma Ling label. The fakes - 36,000 cans of pork luncheon meat and 2,000 cans of preserved and shredded vegetable - were confiscated from three less well known supermarkets and four wholesalers across the city. Customs did not disclose their names. The haul, believed to have been smuggled from Guangdong, was worth about $150,000. Nine directors, two managers and two warehouse workers from five companies were arrested when 80 officers raided the seven locations across the city on Thursday. Investigations revealed hundreds of cans of the fake meat had already been sold from the three supermarkets controlled by the same firm in North Point, Siu Sai Wan and Western before the operation.
