You mean fire ants? Nasty things along with green ant bites. Vinegar or calamine lotion and antihistemines, apart from that, stay away from ants.

These are small little bastids called mot daeng. The bite is like a mosquito but bigger and itchier. I've got a tin if this green menthol ointment, doesn't seem to work very well.

And of course, here is a p**s artists impression of a couple of ant exterminators with their M9A1-7 flamethrower.

My skin tends to react to insect bites more than most. Mosquitos are bad. Ants worse. The one in the green tin helps a bit, called Sandbug in Thai, but quite mild. Antihistimine creams are better for me. Can be bought from most pharmacies here in Thailand. These shouldn't be used for extended periods though. Boots in the UK stock some good stuff we buy and bring here and keep it. One is Anthisan. Another is their own brand with the same medical stuff in. Another useful one to use for quite a lot of things, not just bites to soothe skin, also rashes, itches, dry skin, even haemorroids after a very hot curry is Aloe Vera gel. It won't really treat bites and other skin conditions in the same way. What it does though is just soothe the skin. Very cheap in Thailand - around 50 baht for a tube. What you can also do is stick it in the fridge so it's also nice and cool and this is even better and more soothing to skin. A safe and natural option too "Aloegel" in a green and white rectangualr box by Phytocare is about right strength.

Thanks Fletch, I've got the sandbug, hopeful it works. Driving me mad the itch. One we use in Aus that works very well is Stingose. I'll remember that next time.
For now, suffer hippity!

'mot daeng' ? Isn't that the ant which is sold along side the water beetles, grasshoppers, silkworms and other yummy insects? If so the cure is simply to eat them. Of course, on medical indication you should have a beer while doing such

Of course, on medical indication you should have a beer while doing such My wife says its the beer that got me in this bitten situation. I sit under the sala, and don't feel them on me. Don't believe her, plus its one of the very few things to look forward to out here is drinking a few beers. Not sure if they eat them. I know they eat the green ant eggs. Not with bacon on toast though. I hoped someone may have found a miracle cure is all. Think Fletch has the best so far.

If you get bitten by a red ant, rub down the bite area with a white ant..........Or is that for wine stains?
