You're going to Beijing blether? National Day Celebrations October 1 onwards, is not a wise time to visit the place. The whole of China is on the move, mass exodus. People like flies, everywhere. Price hike, scams, beggars, touts all go there from neighbouring provinces and if that doesn't kill you the air will...but enjoy your trip. I will be interested to see if he survives the trip, or not.

No - I'll be in Guadalajara for the Mex Independence Day festivities - I have a pal coming here to Puerto Vallarta October 1. Going to plan I'll be in Vancouver Oct 10, then Japan. A couple of things are bubbling in the background, one being my Dad may need me back to help him as he had a hip replaced last week. If he's struggling, I'm going home.

Take care. Beijing is awful at the best of times, I wouldn't go there when there is a national holiday.

I did not go to Beijing but I did stay in Shanghai for four days, that was wild enough for me. The pollution knocked me around, sore throat and eyes the whole time I was there.

Shanghai I worked there for three years.
It's not a city it's a planet, fascinating place. I go up as hubby has a project up there nice to revisit old haunts. The whole of the mainland suffers from pollution issues, the South is civilized being close to HK but go north anything goes.

a female soldier at the Independence Day parade in Guadalajara. I'm entertained by the fact that she put on camouflage make-up - then some bright pink lipstick

It was me that posted pics of Beijing. Wise or not, I have travelled about three times during Chinese holidays within mainland China and I have survived on my own through the crowds both in the airport and at the railway station. The air hasn't killed me yet, neither has the masses. I agree it is a challenge, but if I can survive this, I can do anything imo. Just travelled half hour by bullet train from Beijing to Tianjin. Enjoying a deluxe suite in a beautiful hotel and having a great time!! You learn to deal with everything you mentioned (beggars, scams, touts, etc) over time. If you don't go out of your comfort zone, you will never live ime.

The Tianjin 'eye'. A knock off of the London eye. This one is unique in that it straddles a bridge and cars drive on it. Great views even for an overcast day.

^Different, but cool. Tiger Crystal.. must be made in China. I've never seen Tiger beer in a bottle like this. Sitting at a great Thai restaurant find. Fantastic band.. impressive that the girl looked Russian and the rest of the band members were Thai or Filipino and they played a mix of western and Chinese songs. Great beer!

I've been to far more places around the mainland than you have and haven't knocked any of them. Not as a tourist either but with a bunch of friends who have a gallery in XinTianDi, Shanghai, and we went around to many locations on photo shoots. If anything I love China. I have a blog I share with them after all these years we started in 2007 many stunning visuals. As there are many family pics from all participants and outtakes I won't post the link. Enjoy yourself tigress, China- one galaxy many planets.
