Thought I would share this with all of our Mangoes as it may be helpful as many banks will not consider opening an account now without showing a Work Permit.
All you need to do is go to your embassy and get a notarized copy of your passport.
Then take this and your passport to a branch of Bangkok Bank and they will open the account for you.
Fair bit of paperwork nowadays...make sure you have addresses here in Thailand and one from home.
Pretty easy overall although I had to wait three weeks for a consular appointment at the UK embassy!
US citizens need more...but I'm sure they are aware of this...all other nationalities this should work fine.

I was under the impression that you can't open a bank account if you are on a tourist visa. Can't do it here or the mainland anyways, or all the crims will be doing it and laundering money.

Are you on the house book Smokie? No house book needed...exactly as I said above. No need for proof of address either.

I have a retirement visa. 3 accounts and Bank of Bangkok, 1 at Siam and one at KTB. Never got a copy of anything at the embassy. No work permit.
