Don't suppose you know of any banks or exchanges that would sell me some? I have a feeling that they may be hard to source in Thailand for some reason. Ideally I would like to exchange 30,000 baht to start with. I'll get a better deal once I am in Budapest but want a decent chunk of cash to land with.

Stick with exchanging it in Budapest, you will get a crappy rate.

US dollars, the international currency.
Never had a problem exchanging them any where.

You'll find that in Budapest no-one wants THB and in Thailand no-one wants HUF. So the rates will be poor.
I appreciate it's always useful to have a little local currency with you just in case you need anything.
Never been to Hungary but I'd assume there'll be an exchange kiosk at the airport. So I'd change THB to USD here in Thailand, then take the USD with you and then change a little at the airport until you find the places in Hungary where you get the best rates. Airports aren't usually the best for rates, but my guess would be you'd do better changing THB>USD and then USD at the airport (even with two exchange spreads and an airport rate), than you would do with a HUF/THB or THB/HUF exchange in either country. Just an educated guess though.
