I was chatting with Mrs HC over a most lovely and filling breakfast this morning.
The conversation turned to what makes an ex pat forum great. Better than the rest.
For Mrs HC and I, several things came to mind
* Convivial spirit
* Impartial and unobtrusive modding
How about yourself?

No stupid advertising that treats members as if they are morons.
The ability to question mod actions without recrimination.
But above all its the members being possessed of a sense of fun and happiness!

I think good advice, and informative and accurate news in troubled times.
The rest you can get anywhere

Lack of advertisements is refreshing. Especially the manyfold of 'contact' advertisements on another 'well known' site is getting more and more annoying.
So, 'great'? For me the possibility to engage in a bit of friendly banter without annoying a mod to the point of sending me on a holiday for 'trolling'. Of course one has to be prepared to get as good or better than one gives. Life can be tough at times.
A motto? Maybe "don't take this personal, you moron, life is too short for that" ? Or Dutch style "Do normal, that's crazy enough"?

For me it's reading the posts and banter, I do appreciate the debate however not from the thai bashers or the so called thai experts.
This may just be me but I really enjoy meeting folks face to face and having a pint and not bringing up our online life.
I don't mind the ads (kill me) it's a business and if it keeps the lights on so be it, as for the mods it's refreshing not being told what to think.

Be careful mate...too many sensible posts can get you a warning or something. No idea what a warming means on here though...probably tell you the beer is crap or its a lb.

I had a Warnink once, but I was young, now I don't drink Advocaat any more, except with my Granny.

That brings back fond memories of my old granny as well. Mind you, never touched the stuff. Luckily grandfather always gave me a 'vieux' (aka Dutch brandy). BTW both English and Dutch wiki have a page on advocaat, but the Dutch page includes the recipe

Hmmm... Sounds of an old-hand crowd.
This might be a more pleasant experience than first thought.
