NAKHON RATCHASIMA — The provincial livestock office has issued an order prohibiting the removal of living or dead dogs and cats from a Muang district village after an outbreak of rabies was reported there. Office chief Wimut Thanuthamnok said on Tuesday that pet owners in Ban Nong Bong in tambon Suranaree are required to report any suspect cases of rabies to the tambon chief or a local veterinarian within 12 hours. www.thailandnews.co/2016/02/rabies-warning-issued-for-nakhon-ratchasima-village/

Last time I visited the wife's family in Hooterville, Surin, a guy in a pickup with a cage on the back was cruising around the village buying dogs. Mother-in-law decided to get rid of one the dogs that had been annoying her and got 200 baht for it. Apparently they were destined for Laos, and I can only imagine the dinner table. I hate to think what diseases those poor dogs were carrying and whether they could be passed on to the "diner". Hard for a dog lover like myself to imagine eating one. And although I don't smoke the "electric cabbage", I would love to able to tell people I lived in a place called Ban Nong Bong.

No. Rabies is a virus transmitted through an open wound on the skin, usually a bite or scratch

Mother-in-law is lovely lady, but she drives a hard bargain. Then again, I may be wrong about that figure, it was a long time ago and I make it a solid rule to be constantly drunk while

Well said rgs, Staffords is about 30k from our house in Tamboon Ban Pho village, Amphur Sangkha, ChangWat Surin there is also a pleasant little bar run by a farang just as one enters Sangkha from the main road.
Contrary to popular belief civilization doesn't end in Isaan although the Surin jungles contrary to what some may think have of course long since gone.

^^^ Must have driven by your estate on countless occassions, didnt notice the flag to indicate you were in resdience. Maybe next time. For me, civilization ends at the Lam Luk Ha turn off. Has that 24 been sorted out yet, talk about a road to hell, mini bus drivers coming at me three abreast, not for the faint of heart that road.

Funny thing, been in Thailand on and off for nearly 11 years now (when I am not working in Australia or spending seven months in hospital) and I have never been to Pattaya, Phukhet, Samui etc. My wife and I spent a week on Koh Chang a few years ago, that was great but very quiet and laid back. The food thing is not a problem, I eat much the same as the locals, minus the bugs and grubs. In Hooterville they eat anything that swims, flies, crawls or slithers. The reason I stay permanently liquored up while I am there is to handle the craziness. Dogs barking, roosters crowing 24/7 etc. Mind you, I love the people there and they have excepted me as one of their family, San Miguel and all.

Just realised I wrote "and they have excepted me as one of their family". Could have been worse, they may have "exempted" me.
Talking about village sound effects, our new house in Saraphee, 15km from Chiang Mai, is in one of the quietest places I have ever been to in Thailand. Spent a month there when I got out of hospital in November and had trouble sleeping at night it was so quiet. Think I heard one dog bark and one rooster crow the whole time. Then again even Bedlam would seem quiet after being in hospital.
