Ref a throw away line in the music section, but this is for real.
I am supposed to be in Pattaya next week, have decided not to go, would rather be in Blackpool, discuss the merits.
Blackpool, decent boozers, decent ale, no katoey pick pockets, no jet ski rip offs, no Indian tailors touts, no prix trying to sell me viagra, porno dvds, 3 foot high Zippo lighters, metered taxis, no macho shyt prix beating up night club customers etc etc.
John Smith smoothflow here I come, Manchester Bar here I come, Number One bar here I come, Number Three bar here I come, Black Pudding supper here I come.
Mrs can go and play bingo all day, eat candy floss, Kiss Me Quick hats etc etc.
Over to you dear reader.

Blackpool should be in Sebs thread along with Rhyl.
I remember the days walking along in the wind trying to catch my dog, using the lead like a fishing reel but with a dog on the end.

Blackpool in winter, even the kiss me quick hat will not keep the rain off, cold rain. Damp squid autumn lights, fog dimming any kitchiness. Eye candy? Give me the Pattaya whores, sorry ladies and boys.Hotels? Or do you like the Blackpool B and B with a shared bathroom , crap food for the price of a good hotel in Pattaya. Oh and pay per person, not for the crap room. Perhaps a ride on the big dipper? Know which rides I prefer. You could have a day out in Preston, culture centre of Lancashire.Or visit Blackpool zoo and try to decide why the gorillas are in cages. Never, never would I place Blackpool as an alternative to Pattaya, any time of year. I think you should take a visit, now and check out your fantasy. More thoughts. When I was a kid my parents took me to Blackpool to see the lights. Stayed one night in a B and B, must have made an impression. Thankfully we went home the next day, we were returning from Scotland. Before I moved to Thailand I lived in the Lakes, could see Blackpool on a rare clear day from the summit of the hill behind our house. Took my young children there once, they were far from impressed, especially as the younger one was greeted by a thump in the mouth from the local nice kids. Such fond memories. I hate the North West of England, a loathing deep. My childhood was in leafy Sussex and Brighton a regular day out.Even when cold a blast of wind o Ditchling Beacon a pleasure. The day before I left Blighty for good I went with my sister to the Beacon, said farewell to the Weald and Downs.London in the far distance. The place of my birth. I give credit to my father for one thing, he refused to move to Lancashire, despite being offered a major promotion. Got one anyway in London.

One day, after closing, I was lying on my nest, when Stez shouted: 'Get your bags on, come on outside!' I grabbed my stripy tank top, ( I had beer stains on my vest) and I said: 'Best get some cans in, its a long ride.' We drove along the M6 chucking cans at other folk, Stopped at all the services for photos Picked up some fit hitch-hikers, and told them filthy jokes And piled them in the back seat for groat-os Muttley's in the driving seat, Stez Styx is in the front, they're shouting: 'Watch it, <c**t>, you're goin' get it!" Beater's in the back seat with a crack sat on his knee, He's got his finger up her like a ferret. Ten miles outside Blackpool, we had some real bad luck, Muttley shouts: 'Oh, <duck> we've got a flat!' Beater chucked the jack at some <c**t> ten miles down the road, We made him go and get the <duck>er back The twat.
We're going down Blackpool, alright? We're going down Blackpool, for a pint We're going down Blackpool, to see the lights

I lasted an hour on my one visit to Blackpool. Utter utter dump of a place.
When in Pattaya I stay at the Amari and only leave the hotel when the taxi arrives to take us back to Bangkok.
This is acceptable.

comparing Blackpool with Pattaya is similar to the armpit and crotch. Both stink and should be stayed away from!

Blackpool speak English very good.
Blackpool has a "Pleasure Beach" and "Amusement Arcades" such as the "Golden Mile", which are suitable for all ages as well as some entertaining "piers". Pattaya's "Pleasure zones" are more suitable for adults only and "Golden showers" (for certain minority tastes), while "peers" are often dodgy.
Blackpool has nice outdoor parks with fresh air and open spaces, lakes and wild ducks which add to the scenery. Pattaya's action often (allegedly) takes place indoors in smelly small cramped rooms. As for the sad Duck(s) in Thailand and Pattaya...

I really like Pattaya. I keep a lock box there with clothes/cheap phone/Pattaya stuff and when I visit I drop off my passport wallet and anything else of value in the lock box and exchange for my Pattaya outfit. I stay on Soi Buakhow or LK Metro because I know where all the back doors are. Pattaya has not always been good to me but it's never been boring. Never been to Blackpool. I never take a suitcases to Pattaya as it's the kind of place one wants to be able to get in or out of in 5 minutes.

When were you last in Blackpool??? About 8 years ago, have the East European pikeys now moved in? Never mind, thanks for all the positive reviews, that made my mind up for me, we are defo going there this year. My spiritual home is just down the road at Warton, so looking forward to catching up with old works mates and getting some decent beer in me. All the naysayers wont spoil it for us, too be honest I think most are jealous.

I always loved Blackpool as a kid. My grandad would always take me and my brother there every year for a day during the school holidays. Stop at the pub for lunch on the way. Meat potato pie chips and peas. My grandad usually had a steak pudding. Great days. Pleasure Beach. Arcades. Slot machines. Black pool rock. He used to tell us the story about the man with a wheel barrow pushing Blackpool tower in it, to explain how when you were going in at one point the tower was on your left side, then on your right . First to spot Blackpool tower on the way in. We'd also go at least once a year to see the "illuminations" with my parents. Fantastic as a kid watching all the lights, walking from one pier to another "late" at night and watching the lights which had animated themes. The gingerbread factory one used to be a favourite, lighting up how the gingerbread man was made. We'd look for the new ones each year. Sometimes riding on a tram. Got to stay up late and then spotting creatures in the countryside coming home in the car. Always a great day out.

^^^ Excellent post, just the sort of no nonsense reporting and accuracy I like to read.
