I've just had one of those moments when you realise you may be going about life the wrong way. I've been drinking my alcohol and investing elsewhere. Seems like I might have it the wrong way round So a question for our resident "heavy drinker" and general alcohol expert, now we've worked out how he really finances his life in Thailand. Can fine wines continue to outperform and WTF should I really be doing with my alcohol? ... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can fine wine returns continue to outpace major indices over the long term?Market volatility surrounding the upcoming EU referendum in June could threaten return prospects from the fine wines sector in 2016, with the fall in sterling already impacting the cost of European imports. According to Peter Shakeshaft, CEO and founder of Vin-X, a fine wine investment specialist, the UK makes up such a significant portion of fine wine purchases that the referendum could easily "impact the market as a whole", which has outperformed all major indices - as well as gold and property - over a 25-year plus period. The Liv-Ex Investables index, made up of some 200 wines from 24 of the top Bordeaux Chateaux over the last 30 years, has returned a staggering 1,474% since 1988, versus 783% for the S&P 500 and 306% for the FTSE 100. Wine can be a good investment if you have the will power.

Wine can be a good investment if you have the will power. For the amount of wine I used to drink at one point, I should have had preferential shares in more than one Vineyard

I have fond memories of wine tastings in the Barossa Valley and Hunter Valley, dad was a dozen to age a dozen to drink type of man.

Oh, thanks for the tip. I hadn't heard of Coolabah wine before. Sounds like a great investment. Their website says "producing an exciting range of fine cask wines for 40 years". Must be good stuff. On a serious note, I find it interesting how some decades old, sweet Australian wines, which when made were just ordinary plonk with generic names such as "port" and "muscat", have matured into very fine specimens and command a high price.

Years ago some alternative investment type tried to persuade me to invest in single barrel malt whisky, I ignored his advice. Never mind, a sucker born every minute.

Its a great idea Fletch...just be mindful to not get the boxes of wine wet and keep a knife and a pair of scissors handy for getting that last glass out at the end. !

You can find some very fine whines over on the other side....check out their pub for details.
I would only recommend staying for the one mind.
