Fascinating things drones whether used for war, by the police, dumbed down for kids, used by FedEx and other companies to deliver parcels, surveying the list goes on. Read this today: The acronym department of the US defence industry has outdone itself again. Not content with Man-Portable Air-Defence Systems (Manpads), All Semiconductor Airborne Laser Threat Terminator (Asaltt), or even Nanoscale Architectures for Coherent Hyper-Optic Sources (Nachos), they now have Kilswitch. Kinetic Integration Lightweight Software Individual Tactical Combat Handheld (Kilswitch) is an Android-ready app from the US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) that allows soldiers in the field to call-in airstrikes – be it from MV-22 Osprey fighters or sea-borne Tomahawks – in the same amount of time it takes to get an Uber, compose the perfect tweet or order a pizza online. Financial necessity seems to be the mother of this particular invention. With US defence spending falling since 2010, generals are having to think laterally. Rather than dialling up Lockheed-Martin to build them a $2.3bn proprietary Kilswitch with its own satellite made of Kevlar, the top brass are finding lower-tech solutions to their battleground problems. Hence their belated discovery that Android apps can also work on stealth bombers. More here: www.theguardian.com/us-news/shortcuts/2015/apr/14/kilswitch-us-android-app-drone-attack

Privacy can be an issue I mean those poor chimps going about their business... More here about humans being spied on. www.businessinsider.com/privacy-issues-with-commercial-drones-2014-9Private citizens have grown increasingly concerned that these technologies could invade their privacy.
"We already have laws to address if people are being spied upon," prominent drone attorney Brendan Schulman tells Business Insider. "It doesn't seem to me that the technology being used would make a difference."
Schulman, a model aircraft enthusiast for over 20 years, recently represented a commercial drone operator who was fined by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In his opinion, almost every state already has laws that address spying — and almost no one flying drones uses them for that purpose anyway.

I really miss the old Cold war days when the propaganda from both sides flowed like beer in the pub on paydays. Here's a neat modern day Russian one though...Mind you, I hope the Russians realise their drone dreams could easily be thwarted by a big chimp with a long stick, not to mention Johnny Dronehunter....
