have thoroughly enjoyed reading this. of note: 1. you guys seemed to minimize what a troll seb was there. as <Bunny boiler> said, there is some reason to assume the trolling (from a few of you here) was, not as suggested that the forum closed, but it certainly turned off some, including myself. 10 new threads about what you are eating for dinner, oddly resemebled AO's facebooks page. it was twattish, and of course, cynical. 2. the PB and hiding her posts in a secret room was exactly why AF decided to not have private rooms. that decision caused rat pack forum to begin. like her or not, you can see why that was a good call. 3. boy do you guys have a distaste for prego. i considered myself a friend of his until he so unexpectedly and curiously just knifed me in the back. out of left field. <duck>ing weird as shit. left a pretty bad taste in my mouth 4. i liked tc's posts on this thread. talk about a guy who both keeps it real while also dances the fine line. easily one of the best / most tolerable thai forum posters 5. ive appreciated reading this forum. you guys seem cool. apart from a "let's bully russellsimpson" it seems pretty inclusive. 6. im glad i wasn't mentioned here. well, ok. a bit jealous i wasn't mentioned. but cool that y'all didnt hate me as much as cy . 7. xoxoxo ;-)

as far as AF being down....i'll write my own obituary for it. An angry place, freckled with positivity amongst people who are not in the best of spaces in their life. Let's face it, Thailand is a wonderful place, but a crap place to work. For a myriad of reasons, people are there, and tolerate their existence. Forum posting is a way of staying connected, and that connection in and of itself is tenuous. If you stayed in the middle and were somewhat reasonable (i was like that...about 30% of the time ) then you tended to get along with others. But as it was a place to air one's laundry, it had a lot of spite. I remember when the forum had a live chat function, some time around 2000, when Ian was running it. Regardless, I met a few nice people on it and hope to do the same here. For me, making friends in the hopes of having a beer in person is the goal, whether thats months or years in the future. I like to consider all folks who post, potential people to meet. Thats why the vitriol there on the board was distasteful and served as catharsis more so than communication. Rest in pieces AF. Louis made bucks off of it, and I made a couple of friends. Moving on. :beerchug:

I'm sure you will enjoy the Oriental...most of the teachers seem well acquainted with the place. More than me...I've seen it from the bar across the river with my binoculars.

Let me clearly state that this forum has no issue with Russell anyone bar there being a Russell in my class at primary school who was a snide twat who couldn't play football but had a rare talent for throwing bricks at people's doors and running away.
An enigma.

Good stuff on this page.
Another way to see AF's success or demise is to focus on the forest not the tree. It developed a personality. Think of each contributor as a brain cell. Kill a few, by banning or rejecting, and a black hole/vacuum appears, one of the voluntary muscles ceases to function. A forum would not be a forum if all the brain cells were dedicated to the same mission or train of thought. Just look at how the post numbers skyrocket during disagreements. That's what pays the bills.
Although there is always an ignore function it really does us (the forum) no good. I remember having so many on ignore the only ones left were those who agreed with me and/or greened me. That's not healthy for one's social development.
Justice: IMO at the end of the day that's what almost every poster is looking for. How many times on AF have you read a mod or owner remind us .. this is not a democracy. If it isn't democratic what form of government is it? All the other options seem distasteful. Isn't it the Second Law of Thermodynamics that states, every system left to its own devices always tends to move from order to disorder. Does that only apply to mass? I don't think so. A forum needs rules. Who's ruling? Whomever it is has the success or failure of the forum in his/her hands.
National pride: You know how it is when you have a friendship with a married couple. They argue, even get physical, you take a side, and they both hate you for it. I left my country in 1981. I put it down all the time, but if you do I'll hate you for it. Hi Russ!

Agree on the iggy button.
Its real use is dealing with stalkers....if you have them here ever report them to me via PM and then block the twats.
I have a unique way of dealing with our stalking donkeys.

Although there is always an ignore function it really does us (the forum) no good.
...Perhaps not, but judiciously used, the function kept bile levels lower...I noted that persistent trolls like cy reduced attack posts when engagement stopped...starve the troll of attention (in my case with the ignore function): the forum experience is more entertaining and does not necessarily become an incestuous echo chamber...
