^ No, but the buses are that slow a Danang rickshaw could beat one over a quarter mile. (drunken night out in Danang, ended up in a rickshaw pulled by an old dude who looked like Uncle Ho, and I said to my mate - " I am as drunk as a skunk but I reckon I could stagger faster than we are travelling right now, hic" )

^ Good sense rg and you will not get an argument out of me. My problem was I could not afford to have assets in both Australia and Thailand and as my wife is Thai and I actually prefer to live in Thailand I sold up what I had over there and bought land/built house over here. I could have happily lived out my days in a condo in CM city but did not want to raise a boy in that environment, so chose to build the house instead. Would have liked to have assets at both ends but poor financial planning and disastrous first marriage canned that. Getting back to the old dude on the bus, I believe the whole point of what he was saying was if you decide to live in Thailand don't stress too much about homeland, not whether or not it was better to relocate or not. That choice is up to the individual. Much the same, but Bangkok. I do not give a toss about myself, but I have a Thai family, son and there I do care. I have made a life here and although I, yes I,could F off, that would not serve my son well. Life is good for me, as an old codger, but better for my son and wife with me. Hope my income is not hit too hard; too infirm to work.

Sounds like we have a bit in common buhi. I was worried I would never work again but I would love to get another year or two in before I fully retire in Thailand. Actually I will never retire as I have a website to run and will be buying and shipping orders around the world for as long as I possibly can. Just got an order for bamboo rice containers from a business in Australia. It's not a huge money earner but it gives me something to do and I love dealing with our Thai suppliers around CM, some of them I have been dealing with for 10 years.

I was merely pointing out that the guy reckons once you move to Thailand live in Thailand and forget about the old country. An idea that never occurs to many. So the old guy is willing to forget about the old country, willing to forget about the pension the old country probably provides him with? Willing to forget about policies that may affect things like exchange rates, and affect his ability to provide the minimum income required to stay here full time? Met more than a few who are stuck here, cant go back, bridges burned etc etc. Not having met this particular individual I cant comment on his circumstances. Absolutely right I'd say. Far too many Brits who constantly refer to the homeland, when comparing things here. Britain went down the toilet forty years ago when I left. Hopefully they can pull themselves out, now they are out of the EU.

Are you saying that Britain went down the toilet because you left or that you left because Britain went down the toilet? It is very important to clear this up, as I would like to confirm & clarify if my belief that my departure from the Kingdom also contributed to the demise of the great nation.

I'd like to say that Britain didn't go down the toilet, but after last Thursday, we're in the sewer now.

It went down the toilet, so I left, just to clear that one up. It tried to come out of the toilet last night, but was shoved back down by Iceland!!!

That's what you get for teaching every colony country in the world how to play your homemade games. It comes back and bites you on the ass, some of these countries become better than the teacher (I know this because I am an Aussie) I remember talking to an English guy in a guesthouse bar in CR about 10 years ago, he was laughing to himself at a table full of Englishmen who were all moaning about the hoards of migrants taking over the "old country". When I asked the guy why he was laughing at his countrymen he replied - " All the migrants they are referring to have come from countries that England has stuck it's nose into over the years and now they are coming back to haunt them, India, Pakistan, West Indies etc etc etc.......................................
