It is also possible to use your marriage visa extension as the basis for your work permit, as it is a "non-immgrant" visa extension Here's my experience: My visa extension is based on marriage and I do it myself. My work permit is done separately. I use an agent for this which collects all the info from me and the company I worked for. The work permit process doesn't require any of your marriage documents. They just want to know you have a valid non-immig visa extension. The info the agent last collected for the work permit from me (excluding what they get from my company about the business) was: 1. Original passport; 2. Original work permit; (as it was a renewal) 3. Original health check-up certificate* (issued no longer than 6 months); *Please declare to doctor that you would like to check your health for applying work permit in Thailand. The Health Certificate must have no the six prohibited diseases as follows:- (1) Leprosy; (2) TB or Tuberculosis, dangerous stage; (3) Elephantiasis; (4) Addiction; (5) Alcoholism; (6) Syphilis, stage III. 4. Official fee for work permit renewal is either (i) 1-year is Baht 3,100 or (ii) 2-year is Baht 6,100 depending on the BOT’s approval letter; and 5. Signed applications. BTW Some agents want you to do a combined package with them. I prefer doing the visa side myself and work permit separately. So pay only for the agent's work on WP. The company prefers to use an agent for the work permit as it streamlines their own processes and also limits the people they give potentially sensitive company info to. Otherwise they'd have to give me various company information. On the visa though I consider that my call. The advantage of the marriage visa extension means that you are not dependent on your job to stay here, Should your job finish and you are on a business extension for visa purposes, that visa permission end sthe day yor WP ends and you have 24/48 hours to leave the country, although you can extend for 7 days Cheers Fletch

The Health certificate part seems identical to what is required for a workpermit extension. NOTE I'm always told be the company that the certificate should also list your blood group.
1.Leprosy ( โรคเรื้อน ) 2.Tuberculosis ( วัณโรคระยะสุดท้าย ) 3.Drug Addiction ( ติดยาเสพติดให้โทษ) 4.Chronic Alcoholism ( โรคพิษสุราเรื้อรัง) 5.Elephantiasis ( โรคเท้าช้าง ) 6.Tertiary Syphilis ( โรคซิฟิลิซในระยะที่ 3 )
I mostly go to BangPo Hospital in Bang Su. As they take a blood sample for the Tertiary Syphilis test you may be in the hospital for an hour or so.

A very big advantage and you do not need a work permit, certainly not for teaching.

My visa does not state working not permitted, perhaps there are many ( no doubt) limitations, but getting a work permit is much easier and not through the business visa channels.

I need to correct this . I was distracted whilst writing, helping my son with his homework. You do need a work permit to teach, but the visa extension is not based on it indeed the non o immigration officers do not ask for it and just pass the copy back if handed to them. When I did have a business visa the officials were far more particular and not much interested in marital status. It was a longer and let's just say, intimidating process, if doing it by yourself , with the company lawyer not being particularly good at the process. It did in fact result in my resignation from a certain school as they were incompetent and then had to leave the country to renew my non o. If married to Thai, then the non immigrant o route is far better.

Did my extension of stay again based on marriage yesterday. A couple of points just for the record: 1) There's now a notice on the officers desk saying that if your passport has less than one year remaining on it, they will only extend your visa until the expiry date on your passport (This fits with the change a couple of years back that if you get a new passport you also need to get a new extension of stay and you can't just transfer the stamp to the new passport) 2) For the extension based on marriage you usually get a temporary extension for 28 days. Then you have to come back again to get the final result and full 1 year extension. I asked the officer why this was as you don't have this step for the retirement visa and just get your 1 year there and then . She said this was so they could make checks such as you are still married and haven't divorced. She said people do try and apply for extension even though they have separated/ divorced so this step is needed. 3) If you are over 50 then it may be easier to apply for an extension based on retirement rather than marriage. A couple of advantages: - You get your full year there and then and don't have the additional step above of going back after 28 days - You can do it all yourself without your wife being present A couple of disadvantages: - The amount requirement in your bank account is 800k for retirement rather than 400k for marriage if you are not going the proof of income route - You can't use a retirement visa/extension as a basis for a work permit, whereas you can for a marriage visa/extension For me the flexibility of being able to work if and when I please if needed/wanted(adding of course a work permit) would be a consideration why I'd prefer the marriage extension. BTW Immigration don't care about seeing your work permit if you happen to be working, if your extension is based on marriage. But on the other hand the labour department issuing the work permit do care about whether you have an extension based on marriage (=OK) or an extension based on retirement (not OK to get a work permit) Cheers Fletch

Yes as your blood group appears in the new WP book for some unknown reason, problematic for me as the WP says blood group "A" now unless something has changed me in the persuit of me being at one with my Thainess, My blood when i got off a plane in BKK 16 years ago was Type "O"

How's your skin colour? Do you notice webbing growing between your toes? Do you still dare to look in the mirror?

Thank you. For the record, that web page is in Thai and is very useful for Thais who also have a passport of another country and want to live in Thailand as aliens.

They have the same link for English and Thai versions - didn't realise that. I was viewing the English version so posted the link for that. As you say though when you click on the link it defaults back to the Thai version. i.e. www.immigration.go.th/content/service_18when viewed in English and cut paste www.immigration.go.th/content/service_18when viewed in Thai and cut paste Normally websites differentiate by adding suffixes like _EN or _TH in the links. They haven't done that As it defaults to Thai you need to click "Eng" on the top right of the page to view the English text

Went to extend my Visa based on marriage today. No major changes to anything. One thing I did find out though is that they were actually open yesterday on 1 May, which I'd assumed to be a holiday. The lady processing our application said it was very quiet yesterday and they finished early A lot of people seemingly assumed as I did they'd be closed Here are 2018 hols: bigmango.boards.net/thread/12983/stock-exchange-thailand-financial-institutionSo note to self as well as others. Next time it's worth checking if there's a usual holiday around the dates you're due and whether they actually observe it at immigration or not
